In terms of fit and finish the difference between a Savage and a CZ is night and day. Comparing the two is like comparing a Chevy to a Cadillac, both are good dependable automobiles but the Cadillac is just way nicer.

Besides the Accu-Glock trigger is just retarded:evil: CZ's single set trigger beats the pants offin it.

The CZ is a MUCH nicer rifle. It's also probably more accurate. Plus it has a set trigger.

Absolutely...and then some.

LOL...:D I don't know if I would have put in those terms myself orginally....but I agree 110%. The "Accu-Trigger" is EXACTLY that Glock'esque...it works on similar principles. It allows you to put a non-lawyered-less than-a-ton trigger from a legal stand point. It is more a safety mechanism (like the Glock) more than any kind of a true "set" trigger. "Hair Trigger"? Yes. "Set Trigger"....no!

On the other hand the CZ is a true set trigger that will also allow you to shoot it in the standard way. I call it my "either-it's-on-or-it's-gone-trigger" as there is nothing in between when set. It is also fully adjustable. Then there is the fact of the barrels, removable box magazines, and true Turkish Walnut. CZ's are not perfect but I doubt you can get more for your money.

CZ: You can pay more...you can pay less; but you can't buy more for less.

Look , i am a savage fan, they are good rifles, they buy up Anschutz hardware, so they can make their bbls. And recently I have shot their 12 varminter series, with some handloaded 223, and it was very accurate. But boht my cz's in 527 carbine, shooting 223 and 762.39, are both more accurate, though but slight. And though the glockutrigger is pretty good, i can set my cz trigger down to mind control, and it will jump off.

by the way, whether you get one of their pistols or rifles, Cz is one of the very few companies you will hear dudes say, you get more than your money's worth, what you paid for your rig.

FWIW I can tell you in no uncertain terms my CZ carbine is by far my favorite firearm I've ever shot. Magic.

The only other gun that comes close was a nice 1911 someone loaned me at a gun range.

I'm certainly in no position to run out and buy very expensive guns and I'm sure there some $2000 rifle out there that will wow the pants off me, but until then the $450 CZ gets the nod.

I have a CZ 550 bolt action .308 and a Savage 110FP bolt action .308 and can honesty say they are both great rifle. I honestly couldn't choose between them. Mostly because each fit very different niches. The Savage has a heavy bull barrel and the very thick laminated Choate stock making it a great benchrest shooter. On the other hand, my CZ 550 makes for a great hunting rifle.

Foe asthetics I love my CZ's. I've also grown to overlook the "Ugly Duckling" aspect of the Savage. Either will shoot very, very well. I'd hate to give up either........Essex

One of the mods, I think it was Preacherman, wrote an outstanding review here somewhere comparing different rifle brands for African hunting. The conclusion that I came to after reading it was that CZ rifles were at the top of the heap for that purpose. And that leads me to conclude that if they're good enough for African hunting, they're good enough for hunting anywhere.

Gee, I wish I could find that thread that was written some time back!

The CZ is by far the most rifle for the money you can get, mine is not as quite as nice as my Kimber but then it was one third the cost.

Whats a good price on CZ 550 Lux. I too was thinking of picking one up, someone mentioned 450, but around here only one store sells them and they are about 150+ more :( Still want one, in 6.5x55, just want it for 450. Any ideas?

it is tough to get a cz in the 400's anymore, the dealers found out they can get more. i would look at auction sites, or check gunstores that may sell on consignment. i got both my 527's , with all origional czech markings/ cyrillic characters, for 400 each!!!! Sick. but paying around 500 would be very nice as well, I just say cz's selling at a gunshow here in Houston, both 527's, for 569, and they have no front or rear sites, mine does, and they have Kansas City stencilling on them. check around one of the more hunter friendly states around you.

No offence to anyone, But I see CZ rifles are to rifles as linux is to computers.

Interesting analogy. So what would a Kimber be? Mac OS X?

Whether you buy a Savage, CZ, or Kimber, you'll have an accurate rifle with a crisp trigger. The difference is style.

I think it's a reasonable statement to make that those who buy Savage care more about performance and less about style, those who buy Kimber care about performance and style equally, and those who buy CZ are somewhere in between.

I'm personally buying a Kimber. At $1,000 for the rifle and $500 for a scope, I'm going to be saving my money for quite awhile.

Okay, found it.

It wasn't Preacherman's review, but a review that he was referring to.
The author praises the 1950s-1960s models over the more recent ones, but it's still a good read, I think:

The "Bruno" he is referring to is actually "Brno" but I don't think being a good African hunter necessarily requires linguistics skills.

In other words, a CZ does everything better, but you can't play games and wireless cards never, ever work.

CZ's are a fantastic rifle. They're still made the way other makers used to make their rifles.

Exactly. As far as a buying a NIB current production rifle, when it comes o buying bolt action rifles, I pretty much don't buy anything else. One caveat, as good as they are...and they are...even they and their sister company Brno used to do even better. But times change and I don't believe you can buy any more rifle than a CZ, for the money, on the market today. JMHO

LOL... well said. My main machine (this one) is linux, and no I don't play games, and nope it's not wireless either...
That stuff is on my win2k box.

I bought my son a CZ 452 .22. We both love it. I want one also (a CZ, not a .22).

Gonna get a Carbine in 7.62 x 39. Gun shows sometimes have them, and W-M sells them I think.
