I was and still am completely unimpressed with the Daly Hi Powers. The ones I have handled had numerous problems (my write-up of the first one is buried in THR somewhere, a search should find it).
Right now CDNN has FN MkIIIs for $429, so I wouldn't even consider a Charles Daly. They're pretty on the outside, but don't be fooled by them.
Let me tell you why an FN/Browning is the way to go: FN still continues to refine and improve the HP even after 69 years. Some of those improvements:
The newer cast frame, which has shown to be more resilient than the old forged frames.
The reshaped ejection port, to eliminate the already-rare cases of slides cracking in that vicinity.
The firing pin safety which adds only 1 additional part (a spring).
The newer barrel ramp and throat, which aids reliability greatly.
And the newest improvement, the beefed-up slide stop, which has been thickened to eliminate the rare case of breakage and premature wear.
Basically, FN still cares for the design enough to keep it modern. If you buy a Charles Daly or FEG, you're getting a Hi Power from circa~1970 with all of the old features, save one or two like the extended safety and fancy sights.
And at the CDNN price, it's a negligible cost increase for a huge quality gain.
It's tempting, I know... but don't fall into that trap like I did. My FEG is a fun scratch-and-dent gun, but can't even be compared to my Browning.
lousy part about the whole thing is that the money i have for it is all in gander mountain gift cards..................(sigh)................so i HAVE to spend it there.

Find someone that wants a Daly Hi-Power (squirming at calling it a Hi-Power), trade them the gift card for cash and go get an FN/Browning for the low to mid $4's. For that matter, find someone that wants the gift cards for anything, camping gear, fishing rods, anything.
