I recent acquired a 22 WMR Dan Wesson revolver. This is my first exposure to 22WMR, but I notice that every few times I reload, the cylinder gets VERY tight. If I look under the extractor star I see brownish yellow burned powder kernels. If I clean them out the cylinder will close without binding. It's obviously the powder kernels that are causing the issue. I have only used a single type of ammo (CCI target stuff), so my next step is to try different ammo, but I'm just curious - do you think it's just the dirty ammo, or do you think it's a defect with the revolver allowing the burned powder debris to get caught under the extractor star?

Is there a chance that the barrel is set to close to the cyclinder and helping to bind up your revolver with any build up . OR to wide will let excess powder blow out and that can get all around the cylinder. CCI has a 22mag target load?? I have not seen that one. Be sure the shaft the cylinder rides on and the start is clean and lubed too. I use a clp as a general use lube and lube the start with it . have you checked the trigger group for build up that may need cleaning. I don't have a 22 mag but have shoot a wheel barrow full in my DW 22 and don't see any more build up that on a centerfire model.

Tip the barrel straight up open the cylinder and hit the ejector rod to eject the cases. Then the burned powder should not get under the star. If you do it with the barrel pointed down powder grains can get under the star.

This!!

Barrel to the sky when you eject revolver cases.

Then all the crud falls out in the cases.

That is good advice for sure, I will tell you, on this particular gun, you have to do a stout 'meaty palm' slap on the ejector rod to eject the spent brass, so barrel up is the only option (unless you have really strong fingers). I'm not hitting it so hard that I'm going to bend the ejector or the crane/yoke, but I am using more force than I would normally use on one of my 357 Dan Wessons.

when I had my S & W M-48 I found the best ammo was the plain old Winchester 40 grain hollow point and seemed to burn pretty clean. it shot the best in my 22 mag rifle also
