The Smiths need some tweaking for competition. The latch spring, bend the main spring and/or file the strain screw. Smooth the road for the ball bearing in the recoil shield, reduce the trigger return spring, and polish, polish, polish.
I agree that the end result of a correct action job would leave the Smith in first place.
But, since I dug the DW out of the safe, I became intrigued, again, with that short DA stroke. It does stack. For the long shots, you can easily stage the trigger. For close up, the hammer falls very quick. That comes awfully close making it the first place revolver.
