Dang loose bolts!

So, I've been all balled up for some time now with my Kimber 84m grouping poorly. I've been working up loads with no luck. Of course, I just "knew" that the rifle was in good shape, bolts secure, etc.

Until I broke down and bought a torque screwdriver yesterday...

Yeah. Every stinking bolt on the rifle was loose. The rear guard action screw had less than 10 pounds of torque!!! Scope mounts were a little loose too.

I could kick myself for not checking on something so elementary before wasting so much powder and lead. I'll be sure to shoot some new groups and post my findings.

Check those bolts and screws, guys!

Spent a day trying to get my scope zeroed. Kept getting real close then it would wander. Gave up and went home to clean. Thats when i noticed the scope mounts had been walking forward on the rail.

I never considered using a torque wrench. Thats a good idea.

we all have had "dumb" errors made while working up a load, don't beat yourself up

loctite is your friend

can't agree with you there, adlebridge.

loctite on a loose action screw is not good. maybe, loctite on the scope base screws and scope ring screws, but not the action screws. those need to be checked regularly as the action-to-stock fit can change over a relatively short period of time.
