Thanks to this forum (never read about competitions on TFL) I am starting to get insterested in IPSC and/or IDPA... I swear, you people must work for my credit card company so I buy more stuff and such... :D

On a related note, I am going to watch the IPSC match this coming weekend to get a clue from first hand experience. I know if (when?) I do start, I will be a screaming beginner, but I still need some more home practice (draw and dry fire practices).

And it's all your fault! :D

P.S. Hey Kor, see you if you are there!

Oh yeah, do you normally get time to pick up your brass? I would hate to have to waste brass by not being to pick it up afterwards? But I think I could survive... ;)

The last IPSC match I was at they asked me if i wanted to pick brass, or tape targets I said tape targets. From what I understand there will always be people to help you get all your brass picked up. When I shot all I did was walk around with the score keeper and the RO to look at my targets. When I was all done looking at targets they had all my brass sitting in a little cup for me!! Don't worry about your brass someone will take good care of it for you. I am not reloader yet so I offered my brass to whoever wanted it.

Bah, just bring a gun, some mags, and ammo then jump in. :)
you know you want to and the best way to learn is by doing. Seriously though, if you don't when you go watch, you will wish you did.

Seriously, I had convinced myself to take it slow. I was going to do GSSF this year (stationary shooting), and work my way up to something like IDPA/IPSC next year.

I'm so glad I took the plunge this year w/IDPA. Absolutely, take it slow. Be safe. Tell everyone this is your first match...we have a great sport...most places are very willing to bring in new shooters, and bring them along slowly.

Make sure you read up on the rules ahead of time. Put your sheet at the BOTTOM of each stage you come to. Participate in any walk-throughs that are offered. Ask questions. If you are still a little edgy, wait for the next squad and get your sheet on the bottom of that group, but get out there and have some fun!!

Safe shooting,

When folks show up at one of our matches to watch, we offer them a loaner gun, ammo, eye and ear protection, all the accesories and they get to shoot for free. We like new shooters, they are the future of the sport.

Please stay with your squad. Jumping squads can screw up the timing of a match.

Good luck and have fun.

I want to be able to watch first before I jump in and trip over myself!

Though bad news... I might not be able to make it at all... :( but I am still going to try!

Hey, y'all in Tucson, don't forget about Cowboy Action Shooting. Ya got some on a couple of weekends a month there and on the last Saturday of every month in Tombstone. It's as much fun to see the cowboy outfits as it is to shoot. If'n you need some shooting irons to compete, there's always someone around to loan you theres.
