Decided to load some 9mm nickle today and about the 4th one, the decapper pin bent! Sorted through about 250 of the cases and about 25 or so were Berdan.

Took the pin out of my 380 set and continued loading. Also order 3 spares from Ebay.

Don't recall who I got these from but I do know nothing was said about any
Berdan's being mixed in. Oh well, gave me something to do on a day too cold to be outside. :)

I'm finding more and more berdan primed empty cases at the club. As I pick up free brass I now look at all the cases before I start to decap trhem.

Looking inside empty range brass should be rule #1 of Reloading 101.

You will often find rocks, cigarette butts, smaller cases, and insect nests.

And you will sometimes find Berdan flash holes.

If you aren't inspecting each one inside & out before you try to reload it??

You aren't doing it right!

BTW: A simple glance at the headstamps would have indicated a different brand using Berdan primers.

You either need to look at them before reloading them.

Or keep doing it wrong and breaking stuff.

Your choice.

I never really thought about it but I don’t think I have ever seen a nickel berdan primed case. Don’t find many of those things at my local range and my stash has been 100% sorted.

Berdan is one issue - how bout those small primer 45 ACP cases? Try pushing a LP primer into one of them! Yup - what RCmodel said - ya gotta look at each one prior to reloading. I presort everything, not for headstamps, 9mm and 45 all are range p/u and don't matter to me, but for primer pockets etc. I also find some headstamps have primer pockets cut a little too square, so they get sorted out too.
Check 'em first - it'll save you a lot of frustration.

When I get a bunch of range pick-ups I look at 'em as I pop them in my tumbler. 1/2 second each; headstamp, then inside case. I've found pebbles and spiders in some and mud caked so hard the case went into the scrap bucket, and a few Berdan stuff...
