Dealer prices are AWESOME!

give me some examples of the savings...what are we talking about here...half price, 10% off?....fill me in.

I get all of my scopes from Midway (if they carry it) since getting my C&R. e.g.:

Leu Mark 4 6.5-20X50 MD reg - $1149.99, deal - $906.20
Leu Mark 2 6-18X40 MD reg - $619.99, deal - $469.20 (I'll be getting another one of these as a gift to my cousin.)

Lesser costing items will, of course, not have as great of a difference and not all items will have a significant discount.

$30 for three years.

Midway's dealer prices are a joke. Graf's is more reasonable and their shipping policy is better. They actually use flat rate boxes if you request them, unlike Midway's terrible shipping policy.

How's the record-keeping requirements and other things you have to keep track of as a C&R? I'm thinking of applying for a license, too.

Just keep a bound book for C&R guns, even if you didn't use your C&R license to obtain the firearm, you still need to log it in your log book. That's it. Pretty self explanatory. You log in who you got what from and who you sold/traded it to.

Is it inappropriate/unsafe/unethical/not worth it, etc. to get a C&R primarily for dealer discounts?

The Joys of a C&R license

I recently purchased a Brno 1 from a gentleman in Alabama using my C&R. I have to say that nothing beats having a rifle show up on your own doorstep. OK, I exaggerated... maybe a few things beat that ;)

Besides Grafs, Brownells and Midway, who else gives a discount to C&R holders?

freakshow10mm-

To my knowledge you are not required to log any/all firearms, only those that you acquired with your Curio and Relic license that are Curio and Relic items. Weapons I have received as gifts, or that I have received via trade, or that I did a 4473 for, are not part of the bound book requirement for Curio and Relic.

If they are C&R guns you need to log them. This includes gifts, trades, 4473 if not using your license to acquire. Any and all C&R eligible guns must be listed in your bound book. The manner in which you acquire them is of no consequence. If you buy an M1 Garand with your 03 FFL or buy it on a 4473, you need to log it in your log book either way.

Well that's not what I was told, so if you'd be so kind as to cite ATF rulings or policy numbers, I'll not only kindly concede you are right, I'll go inform the people who told me otherwise, that they are wrong.

my dad had a dealers lisence before clinton throw him out of bussiness. i don't think he ever really recovered to MSRP sticker shock afterwards. *chuckle*

Go here: http://www.cruffler.com/Departments/BATFDocumentArchive/BATFDocuments.html

Select "Open Letter To C&R License Holders December 2000"

Read the second bullet point under "Required"

From ATF letter said:
Must enter into the A/D record all curios and relics acquired after receipt of the collector's license.

Notice it says "after receipt of the collector's license" and not "only if using the collector's license for the acquisition". Once you have that license, all guns that are on the C&R list have to be logged into your log book regardless of the manner in which they were received (using your license or not).

Lots of people miss that requirement. When I had my C&R a few years back, they included that letter with the paperwork when I got my license. Seems they don't do that anymore.

Curios and Relics collector license. Allows one to collect guns that are on the C&R list interstate as oppose to going through an FFL dealer. C&R guns are special commemorative guns and any gun that is at least 50yrs old.

Example: You want an M1 Garand rifle (manufactured during WW2 well over 50yrs ago; a C&R gun). You have a C&R license. You order from a distributor or dealer and mail them a copy of your C&R FFL. The gun shows up on your doorstep. You log the gun into an acquisition and disposition record book called a log book or bound book. That's it. The cost is $30 for 3 yrs.

WHERE DO I FIND AN APPLICATION TO ACQUIRE THE LICENSE?

never mind - i found it: 1-866-662-2750, 8-4:30 m-f
