Ladies and Gents,

I have the great pleasure to *finally* introduce the project gun turned masterpiece. The .22 of all .22s. Here she is....

Comprised of a stock Ruger Stainless 10/22 receiver and the following parts:

-Volquartsen Stainless Fluted and Ported match barrel (flutes painted blue)
-Volquartsen TG2000 trigger group
-Volquartsen Aluminum Bolt with titanium firing pin
-McMillan Anschutz Silhouette Fiberglass stock in black, blue and grey
-Volquartsen cantilever scope mount
-Leupold VX-II 4-12x40mm fine duplex silver scope

It only took me about eight months to piece it together and nearly $1800 but it's a pretty sweet little gun.

Accuracy is spot on with one-hole groups disgustingly common at 25 yards. I haven't had a chance to shoot it at 50 yet, but I'm expecting nothing short of spectacular.

The greatest part about it? Once the HM2 becomes more widely available, all I need to do is buy another barrel, cantilever mount and scope and I have two guns in one.

:D

Enjoy.

I have a similar set up for about half the cost (I had the 16.5 THM barrel and factory bolt). The one thing I would suggest is see if you can find a local gunsmith who does 10/22 triggers. I won a trigger job at my Friends of the NRA dinner and had him convert my factory trigger. I liked it just as much if not more than my TG 2000! So I sold the TG 2000 on eBay for $175! He currently charges $75 for the trigger jobs.

That is a sweet looking gun. It should shoot better than mine and my groups are less than .75" at 50 yards for 10 shots. My gun reeks havoc on ground squirrels. Good stuff. :D Now this isn't your "can't have an AR" compensation project is it? That is why I have a $900 10/22! Now I have a FAB-10.

I like that stock a lot:what: Those McM swirlies just touch me in the touch'n spot. What were your specs on the mix?

One of these days I am going to get my 10-22HB in one of those stocks.

Nice setup esheato

To answer the questions first, I haven't weighed the gun, but I'm guessing around 7 lbs. Those bull barrels aren't light...

I am thinking about hollowing out some of the fiberglass behind the recoil pad and putting some lead in there to even out the balance of the gun. The balance isn't really bad, but it could be better. I want to shoot it a bit before I meddle with it anymore.

I had originally intended to get a two color scheme. Grey (same stainless color as the receiver/scope) and the blue of the barrel flutes. After some careful consideration, I added black to give it some contrast. Although, what I hadn't thought of was that the black would darken the silver/grey color. All in all, I'm quite happy with the three color scheme I picked, but was a little disappointed in the stock itself. The stock finish is smooth, although there is a nickel sized rough spot on the cheekpiece and the forend was mixed more vigorously than the buttstock allowing for some serious smearing. I don't think the imperfections are obvious in the pics, but I notice them.

I had called McM about the colors, because I wanted to ensure the blue stock color matched the paint in the flutes. A couple digi pics in an email to McM and they matched it nearly perfectly.

I'll have to post some pics of the accuracy potential once I actually shoot some groups with it.

Thanks for all the great comments.

Everyone needs a tricked out 10/22. ;)

Now this isn't your "can't have an AR" compensation project is it?
:D Kinda...lol
HM2's the .22LR necked down to a .17.
Correct, and to further elaborate it stands for Hornady Mach 2, a spin-off of the popular .17 HMR or Hornady Magnum Rimfire

(I think ;) )

I knew it! It is now scientific fact, all high dollar 10/22 projects in the PRK are merely AR compensation projects. Maybe Bill Ruger did indeed have something to do with the AWB. He wanted to increase his 10/22 market by getting ready of the only other platform with as many gadgets and dodads as the 10/22, the AR-15. The only problem with that theory is that all of these 10/22s are pretty much 95% non-factory. So it was Power Custom and Volquartsen who passed SB23!!! :tinfoilhaton:

Yes you did. But lets get back to the subject, that is a nice looking gun. Think about trying out the Volquartsen 16.5" THM barrel. It is superlite! My gun is the handiest car gun ever, of course I never shoot squirrels from inside a vehicle, this is hypothetical of course. :2ndtinfoilhatonnow:
