Front blew in. I got up at 3AM and the north wind was howlin' outside. Not REAL cold, but cool. Supposed to be in the 40s tonight.

I headed out down to the local WMA and there was only one other hunter there. He came in after me so I had my pick of the spots and chose one I knew to be good and not such a long walk. The water is up in the trails, still high from the river flooding this summer, so I actually set up out in front of the pothole. The pothole was chest deep and the trail was mid calf and hard bottom. But, I didn't have, but about 30 yards around me of clear water with no brush. I lost three birds (no dog) and passed on many that I knew would be lost out over the grass, but managed to fill a 5 bird limit by 9 o'clock. So, there was some good action. I fired 16 rounds, so the average was 1 for every two shots, not shabby for me. I was shooting my Mossberg 500 and 3" Winchester Xpert high velocity number 3 steel. That stuff knocks 'em dead, but I didn't have a shot over about 30 yards.

It was quite enjoyable. My back did start to hurt, but since posting that "I'm too old" thread, I've been taking MSM as per one of the posters suggestions for joint pain. I've only been on it about a week, now, but I didn't notice NEAR the knee pain I normally have. I think the stuff works for the knees. I've had a herniated disc in my back for 20 years and I don't know if there's anything that'll cure the back pay other than building a marsh chair which I intend to do.

And now, I have birds to clean. :D
