They're still trying to close the mythical "gun show loophole" and that is what this is. Stinks doesn't it?

I would not expect it to fly in the Republican House but it'll get John McCain's vote in the Senate. Hope this gets killed.:barf:

And BTW, this is no loophole, it is a legal exemption that we need to fight to keep!!!!!!!!!!!

They are doing this while totally ignoring the BATFE allowing the sale and transport of serious weapons into the hands of the Mexican cartels. Madam Chairperson, it's your own political party/administration that is actively blocking investigations into projects Gunrunner and Fast & Furious. It was your own administration that deliberately put weapons in the hands of drug smugglers and murders.
You want to close the "gun show loophole" and end private sales of firearms? Why aren't you calling for the heads of those in our own government who supplied over 1700 weapons to criminals; one of which was used to murder a US Customs Agent? After all, the BATFE intentionally violated nearly every federal gun law passed since 1968 to pull off this fiasco at the same time high ranking Democrats were pointing to firearms dealers, gun shows and private citizens being a major source of weapons going south of the border.
And still you go after US Citizens?

If you read the Senate bill legislation text, you will very quickly learn that the elimination of face-to-face transactions without a background check is the very LEAST of our worries when it comes to this bill.

They are changing the definition of "Adjudicated Mentally Defective" to include outpatient orders for "Counseling" and you can also lose your gun rights for simply being ARRESTED and not CONVICTED for a drug offense.

If there was every a time to unite and fight against a bill...this is it.

And this is yet another reason I'm happy one party isn't running the show anymore.....

...what gun show loophole? .....in westchester ny you can;t buy a gun at a gunshow without a NICs - period.

WIth the recent AZ shooting, I suspect this will become law. There is little convincing evidence that this is a burden now and the pols need to please the grabbers that they have responded to this incident.....

The same people (mostly Lautenberg and McCarthy) bring up the same measures every year and they never make it out of committee.

And even when it WAS one party running the show, sixty some-odd Democrat congressmen sent a letter to the AG stating that they would not support new gun legislation, and not to bother proposing any since they didn't have the votes.

The head of the DNC wants all kinds of stuff. No "gunshow loophole" bill will pass the US house any time soon. The US senate is another matter.

The failed Leiberman-McCain "gunshow loophole" bill:

A. No Gun Shows without a License, and No Timetable for Licenses to be Issued

B. All Attendees Must be Registered

C. Even Book and Clothing Vendors Must be Registered, and Individual Book Titles can be Registered

D. Limitless Regulations and Registration can be Imposed

E. Are We Certain that No-one Will Abuse these Vast Powers?

F. Enact the Colorado Law?

ok, I read that too fast, but what makes you think it will pass the senate either? The dems are not in a position to be making demands here. I anticipate seeing riders on upcoming budget bills in OUR favor. THEY are the ones who will be making concessions.

Here's the thing. This talk goes on all the time. At this point there is no legislation proposed and nothing to "do" about anything so it's not even worth our time. McCarthy introduces legislation pretty much constantly that dies in committee and there's no reason to expect this one will be any different. If some actual legislation is proposed it's appropriate to discuss then. For the moment it's just politicians doing what they do :)
