This weekend was the Denver Custom Knife Show! I wasn't able to spend a great deal of time there given that I had my wife and kids with me and we had stuff to do, but I did a good walk through and took a few pictures of stuff that caught my eye. Unfortunately, I didn't stop and think to bring a notepad, so I couldn't tell you what the steel was used in the selected knives or anything like that. This is my first attempt at writing a formal review at something like this though, so now I know to be a little more organized next time. Also, I apologize for the mediocre pics. Taken from my cell phone, and another lesson learned: Take an actual camera!

I also need to extend a special thank you to Harvey King, who sent me some VIP passes this year. Mr. King is a wonderful guy and as I have mentioned before, my personal favorite custom maker. I also need to say that while I talked with many of the makers, it was delightfully busy so I didn't really get a chance to speak with many of them past just asking permission to take photos! With that stuff being said, lets rock and roll.

The thumbnails in this post are, in order, Harvey King, two panels of his selections at this show, and my little girl Gracie holding her favorite knife of the show, a little necker made by a couple whose card I lost, but I recall were Mr. and Mrs. Graham out of Texas. They were extremely nice people and I am kicking myself for losing their card.

In this set, we have a knife that I don't really know how to describe other than that I thought it was cool made by Al Trujillo out of New Mexico. I have talked with Al at other shows, and he makes some cool stuff. I also hope that Al joins The High Road! Nice guy, and some cool stuff. The next two pics are related to the 2011 PKA Collaboration knife. My pics don't really show what an impressive knife this is, but trust me, it was rad. Finally, we have a LARGE fighting folder made by David Clark of Clark Blades. Honestly, big folders like this really aren't my cup of tea at this point in my life, but I know others really dig these, and I thought this one was well done. I handled it, and for as big as it was, it was comfortable, flat and actually seemed like it would carry easier than it would appear.

Specifically to make Sam Cade happy, I took a picture of this cool looking chopper hand forged by James Helm, who, as the next picture describes, forgot his business card!!! Anyway, I thought it was cool. The knife is made by Pepper Seaman of M. L. Seaman knives. I have run into Pepper at a number of gun shows, and I have always liked his knives. This is fancier than most of what he makes, and I think representative of an increasing skill set. Pepper is also retired Navy Chief, making his last name quite appropriate. My little girl found this last knife made by Dick Waites of R. L. Waites Knives of Broomfield, CO. It is obviously a forged knife meant to simulate obsidian. I thought it was pretty awesome, as were most of Dick's knives.

The first knife in this set is another knife made by Dick Waites. It was my wife Vickie's second favorite of the show. Her first favorite was sold before I could get a picture of it, lol! The next knife is a fighter from Onesimus blades. This was one a few interesting fighters he had, but he was so busy that I just didn't get a chance to talk to him and get his name. The next is a knife that was in a case, and I couldn't see a makers mark. This knife is like $750.00, and I took a picture because this is an expensive knife that I would actually carry. Not as an EDC, but it was a case of something nice and fancy, but not so much that I wouldn't carry it. The last in this set is a knife made by Al Warren of Al Warren Custom Knives. I like these razor folders, so there you go.

Finally, we have a picture of a couple of my favorites from the show, also made by Al Warren. I like Wharncliffes, and I thought these were really well done. The last picture is of the Judges Choice winner this year. Very, very nice. Done by Jerry McClure, Bladesmith.

LOL! I wasn't joking about that either! I walked by that and thought "I am taking a pic of that for Sam". Curiously, one of the few real choppers there. There were a few big Bowies, but no real choppers.

Thanks for the pictures, and report.

Like Sam C (and to a lesser extent, Sam O) I like the big choppers. :D

Harvey's stuff is very clean. I appreciate that purity, and to me, it is beautiful.

Some of these knives are obviously very large. If something isn't obvious, you might want to place a quarter or a dollar bill in the picture for scale.

McClure's knife is another type of pure- it looks like it's designed to penetrate to vital organs. While wearing heels. ;)

Great report. Sounds and looks like it was a good show
I like the turks head knots that Chief Seaman puts on those choppers. A cool and fitting detail...
