I have kept the name desert eagle in the back of my mind ever since I saw the movie Snatch. The scene where one guy points out to two other guys that their gun says replica and his clearly says Desert Eagle is great. I did a search for this gun here on THR and on the web and I'm still not satisfied with the info I found. What's the deal with this gun? Is it reliable? It looks pretty cool. It seems to be pretty large for a handgun though. Good for target practice? Self defense? Any links to good info on the desert eagle?

The full size Desert Eagles are big and heavy. Not practical for CCW or any form of defense IMO. You have to use 2 hands to shoot it, unless you're a big guy, but still very recommended to use 2 hands to shoot it. It's fun to shoot, I have the .50AE one, but for around $1.00 a bullet, it's pretty expensive. They make Baby Eagles that shoot the normal caliber rounds, I've never shot one so I don't know how concealable or heavy they are.

Here's the homepage of the company that makes them...... Magnum Research

I own a Mk XIX in 50ae, I have put well over 500 rounds through it over the years and the only problem I ever had with it was a few FTF on the last round from the mag in the same range session, the mag was very dirty and since cleaning it out it hasn’t missed a beat.

I have taken deer with mine but it’s more of a range toy than anything else, not that it couldn’t get the job done but it’s way too large, heavy and powerful to really be practical for a defensive roll.

Here's a few pic's to give you an idea on size

I wear a large to extra large glove (and no I'm not that pink, it's just how the pic came out lol)
