We are having our monthly shoot at Gibson's in Mesquite. Please post if you need directions. The starting time is still being determined via a poll in our Yahoo group.

Never been to Gibsons, they are FMJ friendly if I understand correctly?

What about rifle firing from other than benchrest position?

Looking forward to the shoot.....

J

Yes, they give FMJ lovin'!

I don't know about the rifle positions. The owner is the single range employee that I've seen there. I suspect if you are nice to him and act responsibly, he won't have a problem. I'm pretty sure bump-firing will get your butt beat... :D

No bump firing, unless it's underwater.......

The BAR really hates to be on a bench, it was born to go prone........
Have an AR to join the club now too, gave up on my Form 1 ever coming back for the SBR before the NEXT millenium, so I bought a 16" barrel.

Thanks for the tip on the Magpul stock as well, that thing is amazing!

No, prolly not. The "other" BAR doesn't find many friendly places to play. I don't know of any Class 3 friendly ranges outside of DFW Gun range by Love Field, and they were not to keen on the -06 the last time I talked to them.

Unfortunately, the "other" one has been in a safe for going on 8 years now....
that's my kids college fund at this point, that's why I bought the -A3, so I could actually shoot the darned thing.

By the way, you have to shoot it more than a couple rounds this time, I just got another ammo can of Korean surplus 06 at a good price :)

2 in one week... not bad, if I do say so myself... ;)

Looking forward to shooting the ARs for real this time.

Has a time been decided? How do you recognize each other, just by the amount of firepower? I'll be in town and would like to stop by

This would then be Alduro's monthly rant on having shoots on Sundays. Ad nauseum ;)

I plan on being there. Question though, I have a shotgun I need to test fire, can I do that at Gibsons? Can I fire a couple rounds of 3" 00 magnums?
Shotties are banned at Winchester Gallery :(

Honestly, most of us have shot together before, so we just recognize each other. Newbies can look for the strikingly attractive group of people wearing ML hats. ;) Also, I think there will be a disproportionate number of ARs there this time.

AFAIK, there are no shotguns allowed at Gibson's. Really annoying, I know...

Should we consider an alternate?

Winchester Gallery in Ft Worth was second place in the poll again,
should we move to that location at 10am?

Winchester Gallery works for me. I was really looking forward to shooting outdoors though. I swear I am going to buy some land so I can just walk out in my yard and smoke some coffee cans whenever I feel the urge. :D

If we do end up at Win Gal again at least it won't be as cold as it was last time.

I'm with you on the land thing. I used to live in West Texas and we had a gun club that did just that. We formed a corporation, and each invested some $$$. Bought 30 acres and built our own range. each of us owned a share of stock in the corp and we all had full access. We held IPSC matches and other things there, but never charged money for range use. Since we did it that way (one of the guys was a corp accountant) we were a non profit or some such. We had liability insurance and NRA insurance for matches. We took a cut of the match entry fees to pay the property taxes and utilities. Worked good. When I moved I sold my share to another new member and it's still rocking along almost 20 years later. Of course, land out there was $400-500 an acre in those days so it wasn't so bad.

It was nice.

Anyone know of a place around here I'd be up for doing such a thing again.

I would be in on a little land purchase for range use, if we could all get the terms worked out.

As far as the rain is going, well, I suppose Winchester it will be if it keeps up like this. I have to admit, I dont want to go shoot my AR at 35 yards again. Its almost a waste of time for me.

Lets see what the evening brings. If it seems to pass, lets go to Gibsons, even if it is a little soggy. If its not underwater, I vote for Gibsons.

The land purchase is interesting, but honestly, I have several hundred acres available to me 4 hours north of here. Any land I can afford to chip in on is going to be several hours away from here as it is.

As far as tomorrow goes, I'm not sure if I'm going to make it or not. I'll see how I feel tomorrow morning. It's looking up, as I was feeling better today. I'll be interested to see where the group agrees to have it.

Steve....." I have to admit, I dont want to go shoot my AR at 35 yards again. Its almost a waste of time for me."

Steve...you're allowed to move the target closer if you need to.

:D

Someone that's been there before needs to decide whether to go to Gibsons or bail and move to WinGal. I've never been to Gibsons to I don't know what it can take water and mud wise.

I don't mind a little mud. I been inside all winter, and have been doing WinGallery about 4 times a month all winter long, I am ready to shoot my AR and other stuff at a target farther away than I could hit with a rock.

8:27 weather report-

Still coming down steadily in N. Dallas. Family was passing through Mesquite/Terrell and said it was there too.

Who's got a pirogue to pole downrange to set targets?

Maybe I'll go to Market Hall instead, since my brother was a no-show for it today....after I shoot...maybe...

Regards,
Rabbit.
