Did I get a good deal on this 686?

If you want rubber, get a Glock.

Never seen a rubber Glock. All the ones I've seen have been made of polymer.

Back on topic:

$500 for an internal lock gun is a good deal. For a pre lock gun it would have been a steal.

About wood vs rubber grips: 30 years ago all you heard was that you needed to ditch the factory wood stocks IMMEDIATELY and install Pachmayrs because the factory wood grips were garbage. Now what you hear is "ditch the Goodyears and get some real he-man grips like Elmer Keith would have owned."

Shoot what you like and ignore the crowd.

Geez, somehow I knew this would turn into a lock vs no lock discussion. You did well. I have one and paid considerably more. My lock has not failed me in over hundreds of rounds and I dont expect it ever will. There are lots of other parts too that can fail on a revolver, especially on those older no lock models....

Excellent price!
I'd love to live where some of ya'll do.....acting all casual about a $500. S&W 686........That thing would start around $675 used, where I live!

I hear that. I would have bought that 686+ in a heartbeat. Bought a 686 no-dash earlier this year at a gun show for $500 and I was giggling and smiling like a retard the entire time I was filling out the paperwork.

OP, you got a great gun for a good price. Enjoy:cool:

I got a pre lock 6" used in great condition for $650. My area is usually higher than most so base your shopping with that in mind. Would love to find a 3" model at that price good job.

Helps me justify to money spent to the lady friend
If you have to "justify" your expenditures while she is just a "lady friend", don't ever marry her. You will never buy another Snickers bar without permission.
