Did I overreact? My wife thinks I'm becoming a gun nut

Yep, the important thing is you learned that you were being stupid.:neener: (J/K)

Seriously though, luckily they turned and the situation you were prepared for didn't happen...That would have been bad news for you and even worse news for our server...

You already know we would have had a 25 page thread on a guy who called his wife to get a gun ready for some hoodlums following him home and how we would have done it better.:p

Well the first time it's ignorance, the second time its stupid. I'm not stupid. I'm glad that nothing happened, but the next time I will know better.

To those of you who asked why I didn't have a firearm with me. I don't have a CCW and I'm not comfortable with one. If you read some of my posts you will learn that I'm not very good with a pistol. I'm learning, but at this point I fear I would hit other things than my intended target. So for now it's my Mark III at ranges and silhouette competitions. Once I get decent with a handgun I will carry, but not until then.

I always carry a knife, but I don't think a little quick open Kershaw that I carry around for work purposes would be an ideal self defense weapon. If it came down to it I would use it, but I would prefer to avoid the situation.

I thank everyone for setting me straight. That's why I love this forum. I know I made a mistake, but I can still post here.

Brandishing like what you wanted your wife to do is illegal in many places. In Michigan that would have got you in a whole lot of trouble, and rightly so.

No, it isn't...There is no law in Michigan that restricts carrying, openly or concealed, on private property, as long as you're not pointing it at someone. He wanted his wife to bring a gun out to the driveway...Working with the information you and I have (since I do not posess the ability to read minds, and neither do you, so we are left with no choice but to make no assumptions about any plans or lack thereof to make any threatning actions with it), we have no violation, actual or planned, of Michigan's brandishing laws.

tone down on what you think justifies pulling out any sort of weapon. There is no reason to turn something that would normally only end up, at the very worst, as a minor fist fight and arguing into a chalk-line and yellow tape. Just my perspective, anyway.

I spend a bit of time wandering backroads, because I'm new here and trying to learn the area.

When I decide its time to get back on a main road, I often follow the first car I see, because I figure they are going somewhere, which, around here implies taking the shortest route to a main rd.

Noticing someone following you (especially if you don't drive like an idiot) doesn't mean someone means you harm.
