Up til now, I've only reloaded for my pistols-.45 ACP and 10mm. I'm looking to start doing rifle rounds sometime in the next year, for economic reasons.

I'm not a serious target shooter, the major use for this ammo would be just plinking.

So what kind of dies would ya'll recomend for the following calibers/presses:

-.223, in a Dillon 550B. My inclination is to go with Dillon dies here.

-7.5 Swiss, probably use my Rockchucker for this. The K-31s don't burn through ammo as fast as the AR-15. Also might, if I get the time to get my permit, load hunting rounds for this as well.

don't know about the dillon, but for the rockchucker you won't go wrong w/ rcbs or redding. took me awhile to trust redding because they don't use a wrench, but i am starting to favor redding now.

I like Redding for rifle dies.

For plinking, you can't go wrong with Dillon. I've owned Dillon's .308 dies and they are real nice.

I like RCBS and Redding dies for my Rockchucker, if the two are close in price I'll go with the Redding dies, the sets I've seen have a nicer finish than RCBS sets. I don't know what .223 you're gonna reload for, but if it's a semiauto, you might want to do a search on that topic, lots of good info to be found.....

I use RCBS or Redding in my Rockchucker. Have tried and didn't like one set of Hornady (9mm Makarov) and a set of Lee's (45-70) which for some reason sized brass by crushing it. Never had a problem with any RCBS or Redding dies regardless of caliber.

I have Lee, RCBS, Forster, Redding, Wilson, and other odd ones.

For rifles, I prefer Forster, but I can get great groups with plain old cheap old RCBS dies. Just remember to not use the expander ball.

Forster seating dies are pure heaven. I'm still getting by with RCBS and Forster for resizing dies, haven't tried Redding yet.

I only load for handguns so can't comment on rifle dies. For years I've been using Lee dies with a lot of my friends telling how cheap, no good, etc. they were but have never had a problem with many, many thousands of rds loaded that worked perfectly. All of the die makers have good stuff but for myself think I'd just stick with my "cheap" Lee dies for rifles too.

Ouch...my ignorance of rifle reloading is hurting me...what are "Small Base" dies and expander balls?

And yes, the .223 would be for an AR (the wife's, that I get to play with sometimes.)

Expander balls are balls that decend into the case before it is fully sized. As the case is extracted from the sizing die, the ball is drawn back though the neck to bring it back up to "spec." FWIW, I do use the expander in my redding S die but I have the bushing loose enough so that the bal just barely brushes the inside, not actually doing anything more than cleaning up whatever is in there.

Small Base dies are dies specifically meant for making the case smaller for semi-auto reliability. So far I have only found them necessary with RCBS dies. I use a Redding sizer and it is fine for an AR without the small base option.

I'm sorta like Clark, except I also have Pacific and C&H. :) The main thing is, they all work.

I have an old Dillon 350; RCBS dies work just fine in it.

I've never had any sort of reloading problem attributable to the dies. My own dumb-buttedness, yeah--but not the dies. Or the press or the scales...
