I just got my Dillon ss and I have adjusted it . Whenever I swage the primer pockets I can still see the crimp on less than half of the primer pocket . The primers are seating , but , some of them go in rough . Is this normal ?

Mixed headstamps can make a difference. I personally opt for a minimum swage but if your present setup bothers you, increase the swage in very small increments and see if it's resolved. Remember, it's better to have a few pockets on the tight side than too loose. The DSS is a great little tool.

Primers: I have fired a few during insertion due to stick slip (rough?) forces. Try to add a little more swage. On my RCBS swager, if the stripper cup is not needed to remove the case from the swaging nib, the swage is not enough. Also, it does not hurt to clean and lube the nib (what I call the part that actually does the forming) from time to time.

The problem is that the thickness of the web area of cases (even with the same headstamps) vary. Set your SS600 up for the cases were the web is thin. This means that the cases that have a thick web won't fit, so just set them aside until you are done, and then reset the SS600 for them and run them.

You know that you have to change parts when switching from small primer pockets to large primer pockets, right?

It took me a little while to set up a super swage, but once you attain an acceptable amount of swage for the web thickness, it's great. If you encounter too much resistance trying to seat a primer, it just means that the pocket needs to be swaged a little more. The end goal is that the primers seat just as easily as uncrimped brass.
