I am putting together a varmint/predator rifle. It will be in 22-250 and I have already bought the scope (Zeiss 6.5-20x50 Conquest) Now I will have a 1-9 twist and this will allow me to shoot 70-80 gr. bullets. I would like to take some shoots out to 600-800 yards but it will be far and few between when I have enough room. My question is do I get need the 20 MOA base or will i have enough adjustment in my scope? The scope has 45 MOA of horizontal adjustment. By the way I had posted a question about a 22-250 or a ar 308 and see witch one I chose due to the overwhelming response to go with the 22-250. I have already ordered the gun and will post pics when I put it all together. Thanks :)

Others should chime in, but a ballistic calculator tells me you'll get a little over 10 & 17 MOA drop at 600 & 800 yards, respectively, with an 80gr bullet @ 3200fps. Seems like your scope ought to be able to handle that.

600-800 yards is a far piece for the 22-250, wind is the biggest thing you will have to contend with. but i don,t think you will need a 20moa base, my 22-250 is a rem 700 vssf 26" barrel with a 6.5x20 target leupold and 500yds is a breeze with 55gr v-max bullets at 3700 fps. eastbank.

500 yards for my .220 Swift/Leupold 4.5 x 14 x50 is about as far as is possible in the field. I have fooled around with .308 for longer shots. Prairrie Dogs are pretty big until they get past 500 yards. I load 42 grain bullets.

You could use the Burris Signature rings with the polymer inserts. Not only will the inserts protect the scope from ring marks, you won't have to lap the rings as the inserts will hold the scope without movement. If you decide you need more elevation, you purchase the offset insert kit and change out the polymer inserts, you will be able to get your 20 MOA.

No, you will not need it. Your 250 will not drop out of a good scope's elevation at 600 or even 800 yards. You will, however be amazed at how much just a little wind will move those bullets around at those ranges. Also how much a bad trigger pull or flinch will move em too!
