Do I NEED a Sig 238 (.380) if I already have this?

I've been considering getting the Sig 238 because it would be a light and small gun to carry. However, I already have a pretty small .380 and though it is heaver (steel frame), is it really necessary for me to drop another ~$600 (with taxes included) for this new gun?

Here's mine (F.I. model D in .380):

Well if your current firearm is reliable and you are able to conceal it in a manner of your choice, I would have to say no. I think your $600 would be best served filling another gun-related need...like a hunting rifle, a .22 plinking gun, a home defense pistol/shotgun, ammo...or paying bills.

But if the SIG is calling you, I can understand why you'd get it.

I wouldn't spend another $600 on a .380 if you already have something you can carry comfortably. It's definately a nice looking gun but I am not a fan of .380 when much stropnger rounds are available in a better defense caliber.

I personally would rather drop $150 on a Polish P64 (PPK clone) in 9x18 and still have $450 for as much ammo as I could find. I carry mine daily with CorBon Powrball or Hornady XTP ammo.

Sweet .380 Orion8472.

My vote is no, unless you are willing to sell me your pistol, then yes, you would need to buy a Sig. :D

That little Colt (made by Star I believe) looks pretty sweet from the picture. If their accuracy, reliabilty, and size are the same it would be duplicating what you already have. It would appear that the SIG has better sights and, especially in the two-tone, looks pretty cool.

Sometime, however, it is best to wait awhile and see if there are any new bugs that need to be worked out. You would hate to buy one only to have it recalled (ala the Ruger LCP and SRS, the S&W PPK models, etc.).

Thanks, Walk and colt. I like it pretty well.

Actually, it is an F.I. made by Garcia. :) The serial number is CPA006xxx, . . . which seems to indicate that it is one of the early ones, but I've not been able to find out anything on its history.

wait until the Star-made Spanish jewel gives up the ghost (which will probably be many more years) and then get a replacement instead of rebuilding it - that way you get to enjoy two great guns for a long time each....
of course, if you are like me ( very self-serving), buy a SIG and rotate in carry....

No.
Unless you just want a SIG.

The SIG is Over-German-Engineered for a .380, from the intended 9x18mm Ultra Police load it was designed for.

Your Colt weighs 18.5 or 20 oz.

The stainless SIG weighs 25 1/4 oz.
It is larger then a Walther PPK, or your Colt. Just about exactly the same size & weight of a MAK in fact.

Some of them don't work so hot either.

Orion, your question about your owning another 380 if the one you have works fine is like asking the owner of a 1911 why he owns 8 or 17 of them. Owning 1 1911 never stopped many guys from owning another and another and another...If you want the Sig, just go and get it!

benz, . . . . your point couldn't have been made more clear!! LOL

Nice, by the way!

Here's the skinny on my previous post: That imrpessive Stack O'1911's aren't mine! I saved that pic simply because I was so impressed with the pile, and because the owner of those said he would take another pic of the rest of his 1911's when he got around to gathering them all up. :what:

I have stayed away from 1911's for that very reason. Most people can't stop at one and I would more than likely fit the mold. I'd be broker'n the 10 Commandments for sure.

I will keep my 2 Colt Mustangs and will not jump on the sig band wagon, I am betting they will be lots of problems with them
Keep what you have .

Are you thinking of the sig 232? The 238 is notably smaller than a Walther and weighs only 15.2 ounces without the mag. The 232 is much bigger, too big for a 380 carry gun imo. The 238 is similar to the mustang. The mustang is my favorite 380 pistol. I also have an LCP. The lcp/p3at are smaller and lighter and much less expensive and work well as a bug. The mustang is much more of a shooter.

I am interested in the sig simply because I like the mustang so much. I have zero need for one though and so I probably want get one for some time. If I do get one it will get new grips for sure.

Another twist to benzuncle is why own just one 380. I have even added a HK4 to the collection, picture taken before the beretta was in my possession.

I think I will just keep what I have. The little F.I. is my summer carry and does the job pretty well, hiding beneath just a t-shirt.

Thanks guys!

haha everyone else beat me to it... I don't need over 10 of my guns, but I love them. No, wait, I think I'm in love with them :)

It is definitely difficult. "Should I get this new gun or another 1911"? I am definitely hooked. However I like the look of the SIG and would like to add one to my collection.

Anyone who is honest with themselves knows that they don't "need" most(if any) of the guns they have, the question is, do you want it?
