Some times

I think it depends on where and what you are doing.
However I was short once with a good size group of water buffalo right in front of me. I was after one but was presented with manny. They are feral here so with a duty of care to the enviroment I had to do my best to control the introduced pests.

Yep, I carry one extra (for my Glock 17) magazine loaded with 124 grain NATO FMJ's.

While there are those that espouse that they will "never" need, let alone carry a spare magazine, one only need consider that "never" is an extraordinarily long period of time in which all manner of things, even those conceived of as "extremely improbable", can happen.

I agree with 'treo'. +1

I carry two spares, it helps balance out the weight. Lots of ammo is a good thing. What are YOU gonna do when an entire herd of ninjas come flying through the windows while you are enjoying your breakfast at the waffle house?

Not usually. I've already got as many rounds on tap as a guy carrying a six shot revolver and two speed loaders. I think a better question would be "How many rounds do you carry?"

If I need more than 17+1 rounds, I'll be working on getting to my rifle. As for balancing the weight, I keep all my other pocket junk (keys, phone, knife, wallet) on the other side.

I carry 2 standard capacity G22 mags, along with 1 standard capacity G23 mag in the gun. 1 in the pipe. And a P32 in my pocket. No spare mag for the P32. Magazine failures are the most common reason for an autoloader to fail. Wolves hunt in packs. If I have to engage a wolf the first thing I will be doing is swapping to a full mag as soon as it is safe to do so, while scanning for more threats.

Just started carrying an extra mag, might get a third. I have no desire to find myself lacking due to my sidearm only carrying 8 rounds. People getting shot at don't like to stay still if they can avoid it, least of all me!

I always carry at least one reload for whatever I'm carrying. Not a ceratin number of rounds it can be 5 or 15.

Most likely any shooting situation (police or not) will be over in 2-3 rounds according to stats. A reload is like a spare tire, carry it all the time but hope you'll never need it.

In my CHL class, the instructor urged us to carry a spare mag. To make his point he drew his pistol and the magazine skidded across the floor. He said, "Oops, I must have hit the mag release."

I thought that was pretty far-fetched until a few weeks ago when I drew my pistol as I was getting ready for bed. The mag didn't fall out, but it was loose. I'd inadvertently hit the mag release at some point during the day. The mag was held in only by gravity because of the cant of the pistol. It would suck to draw thinking I had 16 rounds on tap only to run dry after the first shot.

I carry a spare mag.

I usually carry my FN 5.7 and two spare magazines. 60 rounds (even if some say it's a puny round) sure can be comforting, if not entirely comfortable to carry.

I can't imagine not carrying a few spare magazines, and at least one spare pistol.

I don't like to have lots of crap on me, and I'm not one of those guys with a John Deere cap and a fanny pack or photo vest. I already have my phone, knife or gerber, keys, wallet, weapon, and ipod. That's a lot of bulk already. I do carry mags in my backpack, but on my person is just too much.

If anything the 2 mags on my left hip help balance the weight from the gun on my right.

I recall at least two stories of guys who have used their guns off-duty, and not had to go through two mags, but spent the entire first mag or nearly spent it without even thinking about it, and were real glad they had #2 to recharge with as they assessed the situation.

I like to have as much ammo on hand as possible. I always carry at least one reload. I usually carry as many as I can conceal. However, all my handguns are six-shooters, so reloads would be more necessary for me than for those of you who carry 15 shot pistols. With my revolvers, I carry as many as four speed loaders or moon clips. With my Browning Baby, I only own one spare mag, so that's obviously the limit.

I think I would still carry at least one reload even if I carried a hi-cap auto, though.

Why not? Its not that much trouble.

I don't carry a spare for my p99, but I will probably carry a spare when I switch over to a 1911.

Weighing in here... Typically no. However if I am going to something where there may be a lot of people like some kind of summer festival, then I will pack an extra mag.

Yesterday though, I was picking up chinese food, and there were 4 people walking two pitbulls and I got to wondering about back up plans and second guessing myself... I now live back in the hood!

I'm right there with you, Doc.

Yup. Gives you a good sense of balance, and those extra lead thingies are handy when needed.

I imagine if you do happen to need them, you would REALLY REALLY NEED THEM.

.45 with two spares and a .38 j-frame BUG on the ankle.

Nobody has ever died from carrying too MUCH ammo.
