1 mag in pistol loaded with JHP.
1 spare loaded with FMJ attached to holster.
2 spares loaded with JHP and FMJ alternating in separate pouches.
61 rounds in total.

You never know what situation you could wind up in...you may NEED to shoot through walls or sheet metal. Imagine being the target of a drive by with a four door sedan full of multiple shooters.

Sorta.

Sorry, live in the PRK. CCW is hard to come by here for us peons. However, let it be said that there ARE times when a few rounds to keep the other guy's head down are not a bad thing. Usually not a good idea, but I can envision situations where it could be useful. If it was convenient/easy, sure, a spare mag is good. If it's not convenient? Probably not worth the trouble.

Then again, if I did carry, it'd be a 6 shooter.....

Then I read this:
In my CHL class, the instructor urged us to carry a spare mag. To make his point he drew his pistol and the magazine skidded across the floor. He said, "Oops, I must have hit the mag release."

I thought that was pretty far-fetched until a few weeks ago when I drew my pistol as I was getting ready for bed. The mag didn't fall out, but it was loose. I'd inadvertently hit the mag release at some point during the day. The mag was held in only by gravity because of the cant of the pistol. It would suck to draw thinking I had 16 rounds on tap only to run dry after the first shot.

I carry a spare mag.

Pretty hard to do that with a wheelgun.

I plan on open carrying my XD-45 this summer in a Galco retention holster. Since I'll be way outside of the urban zones, I'll also have two spare mags in a mag holder. I figure 40 rounds should see me through pretty much most situations.

call me paranoid.

right now I OC my PT145, I carry a full extra mag in the back pocket.

This summer when I get my CCW and a 1911, I will CCW the PT145, with extra mag somewheres, and have the 1911 OC'ed with an extra mag in the back pocket, and eventually a .380 in the boot, with an extra mag.

Why? Because one day the zombies will come for me.

I always carry a reload, be it a spare magazine or - when I carried a revolver - Speed Strip. If you're going to go to the trouble of carrying a gun in the first place, a reload adds little effort. With a slim single-stack 9mm mag I might even consider carrying two.

I only carry a spare mag when I'm carrying 1 gun. Not necessary while carrying 2 guns because pulling a BUG is usually faster than reloading.

Certainly....a dozen at least....and a case or two of ammo in the Jeep.
One never knows when the zombies will strike.

8+1 in my 1911.

8 more in a spare mag.

Bear in mind that you don't only change mags when you run dry. You can pop off 4 rounds and switch magazines just to refill during a lull. Now you're back at 9 if the action starts again instead of 5.

1 spare mag for issue pistol at work. And I also carry 1 spare mag on my persons for my personal carry as well.

Right now on me I have 3 spare 13 rd mags for my H&K USP 40 and 2 spare 6 rd mags for my Kahr P40 BUG. Always be prepared better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I carry a spare magazine loaded and ready to go.

The main reason why is because both of my holsters have spare magazine holders.

Will I never need the extra one ? Probably not. If I cannot hit my target and take it out with whats loaded in my gun then I deserve to take some rounds myself. :)

Yes, for two reasons.

First, to get back into the fight if I have a malfunction, either type 3 or bad mag.

Second, as opined in another thread, I don't think anyone has ever said after a gunfight..."Damn, I brought too much ammo" :D

Imagine being the target of a drive by with a four door sedan full of multiple shooters.
Okay, I am imagining it.
With all due respect: Now I am attempting to imagine just when I will have time to even shoot, much less reload, as a car drives by with multiple shooters blazing away at me. I don't know about you guys, but I'll be ducking, covering, and running away as fast as I can...firing for retreat cover only. I would not be standing around slugging it out with them for 62 rounds.

Wish I could remember more about it, but an officer was shot and went down. He continued to fire and prevailed. Asked why he kept up the fight during debriefing, he said, "I wasn't dead and I still had ammo."

Yes, I know the "average" gunfight is within 3-7 yards and about 3 rounds expended. But there's no guarantee you'll be in an "average" gun fight. And as Striker said, there ain't no such thing as too much ammo.
