Can anybody tell the age of a Dick Special? Serial # C03475 3rd edition (enclosed ejector rod) walnut grips 2 inch barrel, in blue.
Any info would be appreciated. I just found this gun in a local shop and its calling me to take it home.

Thanks guys, 1972, This makes me feel old!! I was still in High School when this Colt left the factory. I put a deposit on it today (the 17th) and will have to wait for the amendment to my permit to pass the Sheriff's office before I can liberate it from the gun shop, so about 10 days and I will post a pic or two if I can figure out how to put them on this site.

Thanks again for the info.

Joe :)

Guns That I Would Not Trade Or Sell For A "Wooden Nickle"

Everybody here on this forum whether a COLT lover or not, needs at least one
Detective Special in their collection. Me, I own 3 of the second series as made
between 1947 and 1972; as one is not enough (LOL). Also, I own a very late
1972 [or very early] 1973 Colt Agent with the ejector rod shroud. Its a bit
unusual, as its a highly polished blue finish; with the older model grips, and
not the ugly attempted matte parkerized finish found on later issues~! ;) :D

Correct me if I'm wrong please. The "parked" Agents, and steel "Commandos" were introduced as low cost models. Possibly during a labor strike at Colt. They've become collectable. I've had one of each over the years. They are rather ugly and finish wears easily.

My carry gun. '60 DS with Agent grips modified to fit.

Thanks for all the replys!! Just the mention of the Detective Special and they come out of the woodwork :)

So since I've got your attention....

Whats a good recipe for 158 gr. LSWC (.38spl of course)

Who makes a nice little OWB holster?

How about some custom grips?

I hope I'm not pushin' my luck, but I did buy this gun on St. Patrick's Day :)

Joe

Colt "purists" will sometimes refer to the post '66 DS as having a "butchered" frame. That's referring to the short frame on post '66 DS, Agent, Cobra, SF, DSII, and Magnum Carry. I've got one long frame and two short frame guns. The short frame has a myriad of grips available for it compared to the long frame. What are you looking for, in what price range?

As far as a holster. I like the bianchi minimalist 105. Very lite, leather, with an O ring hammer retention that works well with a revolver this size.
