My usual carry gun is a glock 36 but on occasion I do carry my Springfield stainless loaded. I also have a springfield G.I. and call me crazy but I just love the feel of the bone stock 1911. I was just wondering if anyone carried the G.I. themselves and what they thought about the reliability of the G.I. series of guns for ccw. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

As long as it was reliable, I see no reason why you wouldn't. I would suggest getting the mag well beveled and feed ramp polished at very minimum. Neither changes the look of the gun but both are helpful.

I just bought a SA GI 1911 and have been thinking about it ("1911 sacrelige" thread somewhere here). This is my first 1911 and it appears I'll have to do some tweaking and fiddling to get it to work reliably. I haven't looked up what it weighs but by feel it's surely the heaviest pistol I own, and that GI 5" barrel is pretty long too. I might give it a try for IWB CCW but if/when I work out the reliability issues I see it as more of a nightstand/car gun.

Yes. It's not my favorite to carry, but I have. Because of its thin width, it conceals well. However, due to its size, I prefer to use an OSWB holster. SA make a good leather strong side paddle typw belt holster that is good for that purpose.

Yup.

I had mine rebuilt into a custom job, but carried it stock for a while before I had the coin saved up to pay for the rebuild. Only thing I did was put about a case of ammo through it and put nail polish on the front sight to make it more visible.

I really like my full-size 1911's and to be honest was heavily influenced by Mr. 1911 himself, Jeff Cooper. I see no one that has a similar impact or persuasion with the American public.
IMHO, carrying a SA or any other full-size 1911 are a dying breed due to so many smaller-compact alternatives.
To answer your question, yes at times, and you are well-armed....:)
stylin with a Super .38 count ?
You bet...Nice pistol....

If you can depend on it, and you love it. Well sounds like Peanutbutter and Jelly, it just goes together. Carry it and have no worries.

I carried a bone stock 1911 Colt (manufactured in 1913) for almost 10 years. Lost my mind one day, :banghead: sold it and switched to an S&W 3913 (smaller, lighter, yada, yada, yada...). Right now I usually carry an XD-40 or XD-45, but I can hear my Springfield 1911 calling.

Yes, hav'nt been doing it long but do carry. The Hogue will be removed for some walnut slim grips very soon. I chose SA from an article I read a while back about a motorcyclist with a nib 1911 that fell from his ruckscak on the freeway and SA sent him a nib replacement after he sent it in for repair. Also I did have an Xd45 that was flawless but to dang big for carry and or home defense at the time. She's not full sized but she's a companion, til the New Agent can be aquired.
