I need sources of reloading info for 8x50R Lebel rifle cartridge (where's Tamara when I need her?) I've located some info here http://members.nuvox.net/~on.melchar/relo.html but want to get lots of cross references as any good reloader should.
Here's the background:
I have a Mannlicher-Berthier Mle92-27 8mm Lebel carbine that my grandfather brought back from WWII as a battlefield pickup. It always sat on my dad's gun rack and we had an original box of Remington "CleanBore" ammo for it, but we never shot it. After my parent's divorced, my brother inherited it and I didn't see it for 15 years.
Last year I inquired about it with him...he's not a shooter and said he didn't have it but after rummaging around in the garage for 30 minutes, found it in a stack of assorted tools
As expected it was dirty and rusty. The good news is that with some TLC, I have it looking good again...most of the rust was surface and the stock just needed to be scrubbed. The thumbnail image is a rifle similar to mine...our rifle has the original sling that still in pretty good shape. I've found some original clips for the rifle at Old West Scounger (expensive buggers!). Loaded ammo is virtually non-existent and when found runs at $2-3 per round. Brass has similarly been difficult to find and when located runs at at least $2 per piece. Ouch! You can form the brass from .348 Win brass but I'm not that ambitious. Today, I discovered that Buffalo Arms http://www.buffaloarms.com has Hornady brass (new item) for $0.35 a piece...BONUS! Midway has Lee dies...$17 dealer price. Hot diggety!
So I'm close to getting the old girl back in service...let the jokes about how the rifle SHOULD be in good shape (only dropped once) begin.
