Does anyone name their handguns?

Used to name some of mine after girlfriends, now that I'm married, I've dropped the practice.

Never named my pistols, but the first thing I did when I got my first BP rifle was to name it. Although it's probably more a title than a name. This goes back to watching Davy Crockett, and Daniel Boone when I was a Kid. Still have that rifle. A TC Renegade, .54. I dubbed it " Blunt Destruction". Also carved it on the stock, in script.

My carry gun has always been called Religion, mostly from my wife asking as we leave the house if I'm "walking with God", or proclaiming that certain peolple need to "find religion."

I occasionally make a reference to the make of gun (e.g., "insured by Smith & Wesson" or "Mr. Glock is keeping me company"), but other than this do not give inanimate objects names.

OK, Pyle, when do I get my 10 points? :D

I can't bring myself to name a gun, but my Fiance insists on naming them all. Example:
Her: "Are you bringing Betty to the range?"
Me: "Who told you about Betty and I? :uhoh:They're lying!"
Her: "Betty is what I call that particular pistol"
Me:

Yes, I have nick-named a few but they are safe queens. I don't name the working class because then I couldn't trade them or sell them. It is the same with an animal. If you name any animal from cows to chickens then they tend not to taste so good when you eat them.

Geronimo45 - You didn't really paint a gun with Duracoat in white? No way. Now I have to check and see if they actually offer Duracoat in white. Camo for hiding in the freezer from the evil Eskimo pies?

41magsnub - You name rifles like old people...... negotiate monkey bars. Of course I changed the ending. This is the High Road.

Uhhhhh No. They're guns. I'm not ashamed of them a bit. If my wife wants to know if I'm carrying a gun she said "Have you got your gun?"

Besides. They had names when they left the factory. "The Colt", "The Smith and Wesson", and so on.

The only one I named was my Taurus Raging bull 500 10 incher. I call it "Fluffy" its sort of a reverse nick name :D

EDIT...

Come to think of it me and my wife call my Ruger P90 "the .45"

It was my first gun and my only for a few years and then I picked up a 22 and 9mm so it was my only .45 back then. Anytime I was going to the range she would ask "you taking the 45?" and even to this day we will ask each other that about the Ruger even though I own a lot of 45 caliber pistols.

kinda strange now that I think about it, Im glad I read this thread

I did - 21. White from Lauer Weaponry. I'll try to get pictures this weekend.
The idea behind a white gun is for CC purposes. I'm in Texas, and I don't like to wear black from spring to early fall. Thus, white is more likely to be worn.

Also: what color do we usually see handguns in? Black (polycoat, tennifer, Glockifer, bluing) or stainless. Now, if you have a white handgun and a white shirt (and white holster), you are employing 'urban camoflauge'. You are not only concealing your gun, you are camoflauging it, in case your cover garment is blown back in a high wind or some such.

Besides, I've never seen a pistol painted white, so I had to try it.

No eskimo pies... but it would probably hide nicely in the ice tray. Or the towel closet.

I just call them by what is already stamped on the slide/barrel/receiver, myself...

Maybe I'm just not creative enough?

I'll mention this to my shrink... it might be the key to my repressed feelings of isolation and lack of sensitivity, through denial of identifying with my belongings in a personal way.

you could be ok-
personifying beloved, security items could be a regression to childhood and feelings of being ignored by a parental figure, therefore forcing the subject to gleen attention from imaginary sources. :neener:

Well, my mausers are all getting named now, to make it easier. When asked if I brought my mausers I now distinguish by country of origin or country of issue. I can say, "I brought the turk, chilean, the yugo and my 98k.
It feels wierd to name my kar 98k or any of my mosins. The rest of my rifles don't really have siblings so I can just call them what they are. My Star is either called my star or when it use to FTE it got called a colorful nickname. Now I just stick to "Star" However I may start calling it "The Spaniard". I like that.

You mean like "Dragon Slayer" or "Tooth of Satan"?
Pardon me, I've got to get back to my D&D role playing game. I think it's my roll.

My names for my guns are "the Glock", "the SIG", and "the Smith".

Yeah...I'm not very creative.

I have a Ruger Mark II 22 pistol I've nicknamed Roadrunner after doing some external mods to it.

I have a friend with a number of carry pistols. Him and his girlfriend have a code, that I've managed to partially figure out based on my limited knowledge of what he has and occasional 'printing'. :D

"Gaston" - G26
"Skater"- P3AT
"Comrade/Commie" - Mak

I still haven't figured out what "Fiona" is, but I'm pretty sure "Ace" is some sort of tiny derringer (think poker players). Maybe one of those NAA "minis".

My quest continues. :)
