Hey my Rock Island Armory 38 Super comes with one new magazine, and I am thinking of buying an extra one or two but the only brand they have at the local gun shop is "Chip Maccormick magazines" Just wondering if any of you guys that own an RIA have fired your guns using a Chip Maccormick magazine? I guess what i really wanna know is if my Rock Island Armory will work great with the brand mentioned????

A friend's does.

Theoretically, all 1911's should work with all 1911 magazines of the same caliber.

Realistically, it often depends on the gun itself, more than the brand. Most often, they work with pretty much everything, but will prefer one brand of magazine over another.

Chip McCormick mags are pretty highly regarded all around.

It'll work. I run mccormick mags in my colt and they run great. I've used the Wilson 9rd mags (they'll take 10 rounds) and thou they worked fine they are built lighter than the mccormick's. Occasionally one wouldn't drop free during a match also the plastic followers have repetedly cracked on me and one magazine body cracked around the feed lips.

For match use the Mccormicks just last longer than the wilsons

Huge CMC power mag fan here. Fired thousands of stoppage free rounds through his 8 rounders.

I didn't get good results from McCormick power mags. The follower tilts too much and induces failures to feed with hollowpoints on both of my 1911's.

Feeds perfect with other mags with the dimple on the follower.

The CMC Shooting Star .38 Super mags work great in my Colt Combat Commander. They are not recommended for aluminum framed guns because the follower can gouge the feed ramp.

I've got the RIA Government model and it works just fine with all magazines. The only one that ever gave me any problems was one out of a a bunch of surplus GI mags. I use a mix of Colt, Novaks, Chip McCormick, Wilsons 47D, GI and a couple of no-name mags, all have worked fine except for that one surplus GI. The Chip McCormick I have is a stainelss "Shooting Star" with the flat follower. I tossed that one GI mag and life is good now.

Not sure about the 38, but I have a GI 45 RIA, and the McCormick's wouldn't feed anything, not even FMJ. Wilson Combat mags feed both FMJs and HPs though.

My 38 Super RIA loves the Chip McCormick mags. The factory mag that came with mine was absolute garbage, the feed lips opened to the point that it would no longer hold any rounds, they just came out the top as soon as you let them go. I've had one problem with them though, one of the base plates came off, I called them up, they gave me a new one for free. The Cobramags are good too if you want an extended baseplate.

I shoot Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags in both of my RIA 1911s (.45 and .38 Super). They're all I buy anymore.
