O.K., here's the deal. I've got an AR-15 that groups really well. The mods I'd like to do are a free float handguard and ensure a nice crown at the muzzle. I'm not shooting flies at 500 yards, but I do want to get the best out of this particular rifle.
So, I work in a machine shop and have access to all the machines I can stand. How would I go about putting a nice crown on the barrel? Any magic degree of taper in the bore? Cut then polish or just polish? Thanks in advance for any help.

11 degrees protects and seems to give the best gas dispersion from what i hear.

The only time a crown will add or subtract from your accuracy is if is damaged or not. There is no "magic" angle or type that improves anything except maybe offering better protection to the bore edge, unless you`re shooting say a 0.001" capable rifle. You say the rifle shoots fine now? If there is no apparent damage to the existing crown why fix what ain`t broke?
I`d spend the $$ / time on upgrading my sights or practice ammo.

+1 for Ol' Joe

But if you must do it, used the Brownells tool...I've used them several times with excellent results...Initial cost is high, but the pilots for various calibers are cheap, once you have the basic setup
