The freedom to speak does not carry with it immunity from the natural results of your words.

Just like the freedom to bear arms does not carry with it immunity from the results of how you use them.

Shoot someone unlawfully and you will go to jail.

Tell a doctor you think you might kill yourself, and expect to be treated as a potential suicide case.

well said sir... simple and correct.

We are all free to make any choice we like. We are not, however, free from the consequences of those choices.

One of the people they had on tonights episode lost his thumb because of his gun rights.

Blew his thumb clean off... but they reattached it. He said his thumb got in front of the barrel.

Making it sound like someday I'll hafta talk with my lawyer before I can call up my Dr.

Well, that depends. If you were suffering from acute depression -- or psychotic or sociopathic thoughts -- and were planning to tell your doctor so, perhaps.

We moan and gnash our teeth that someone doesn't "take notice" or "take action" before some of these mentally disturbed nuts go on killing sprees. "How can someone NOT have seen that Loughner, or Hasan, or Cho was dangerously disturbed? Who let that guy have a gun?" Oh, but if we show up at the doctor's office and say something about how we're not dealing with life's problems well and are thinking of hurting ourselves or someone else...well, that should be protected free speech.

<Sigh>

" "How can someone NOT have seen that Loughner, or Hasan, or Cho was dangerously disturbed? " "

Having worked with individuals with disabilities for nearly 40 years, I'd say the answer is this...

There are a whole lot of folks walking or wandering the streets with worse mental health problems than those 3 and the system is designed (and funded) to only deal with the most severely impaired. Severely impaired meaning they can't take care of themself or finagle/sweet talk somebody into feeding them and keeping a roof over their head. The three folks named above were in some minimal way functioning day to day for the most part. At least until they finally snapped.

It's a scary thought that they aren't/weren't anywhere near being among the worst off, isn't it?

Oh absolutely! And I completely agree with you. That question was presented merely as a rhetorical abstract to highlight the silliness of pretending that you should be able to say anything at all to a doctor and NOT have him/her react to attempt to save lives -- yours or others'.

All I see in this thread is complacency.

The complacency is so bad, that some forum members are using the victims figure of speech against him.

This is why after many years of conversing with the pro 2nd community, I've grown to hate it. You guys are your own worst enemy.

Big indictment, no backup proffered.

Please continue..

when you have so called "freedom loving 2nd amendment blah blah blah" type of people saying that he's wrong for joking about suicide or using his figure of speech against him as "proof" that he's mentally unstable, then you know these people in this community have been conditioned to believe that the states behavior against this man is "normal".

How ironic there's always a thread here and there that has some one claiming "sheeple", yet these gun forums are full of them. Many stories have come and gone with things like this happening to others, only to find pro 2nd "conservative", "libertarian", "freedom loving" phonies sharing backwards and asinine opinions, and sometimes even supporting the states aggression.

It's not logical to blame a man's actions for the injustice that was perpetrated against him.

This thread is the last straw. I am convinced that the pro 2nd community is as stupid and hopeless as their neighbors. Good bye and good riddance.

Wow, a twofer post........name calling and the dramatic "I'm leaving this forum forever"! Classic.

Do you honestly think that just because we share a common interest that we all feel and think the same way?

If you can't handle reading a discussion that does not mirror your own opinions than maybe you shouldn't be on any online discussion group sine there will always be people you don't agree with

"Good bye and good riddance."

Oh well. You know you based your entire rant on one thing - the so-called victim's declaration of his complete innocence. Not facts, not evidence, his statement.

Maybe one day you'll learn the basics of logical thinking.

And name calling is so 8th grade. You sound like the teenaged girls across the street from me.
