Tomorrow I'm ordering the rest of the stuff to complete my AR. I already have my shopping cart done over at midway, just waiting on my paycheck to go into my "play money" account then I think I'm gonna order it. 16" light profile 1:9 twist, flat top.

BUT

Before I pull the trigger....

Is there any reason why I shouldn't purchase this upper? I'm going to use this gun as a truck/coyote/carry/brush/hog gun, and it'll be my 2nd AR, but the 1st one I'll really use(the other is a colt AR preban that's a safequeen).

In this price range, what would you suggest if you don't think it's a good idea?

Right now, midway has a deal going on...with the upper, a stock with wrench, and two magazines it's 458 shipped.

Thanks guys.

Since you want to hunt in the brush, and hunt pigs, that typically implies some harsh conditions at times. I'd look at the $430 Del-Ton upper with the chrome lined 1:7 twist barrel. The chrome lining will give increased corrosion resistance if your hunting gets wet & nasty. The 1:7 twist will let you shoot the increasingly popular, heavy for caliber, 77+ grain bullets into the piggies. That's just my suggestion.

got a link to that I dont see it on the site. the oracle does have/doesnt have the forward assist & duct cover? I'd pull the trigger on that deal IF it did have the f.a. & d.c.

This one does have forward assist and dust cover :) DPMS offers another one that's 399 without one, but it has a heavy barrel. They have a thing going now that you get 10$ off for every 100$ you spend, there's a code for each increment. I used code 1215077, for 50$ off of 500$.

I thought about a 1:7 but I really want to shoot readily available ammunition. The highest weight I can find here right now is 55 grn : / I'd like to go with a 1:8 because I feel like that'd be a great compromise, but I can't find much there.

the oracle will suit you just fine, I just bought one and put a 512 EOTech on it and it is accurate enough to take on coyote hunts.

I would buy the Oracle upper in a heart beat. I own one and it shoots great! I have several handloads ranging from 52 gr hp's to the 70 gr VLDs. All shoot ragged 1 hole groups at 100 yards.

As for hunting this year alone it has taken 2 deer and 3 hogs. All with 60 gr Nosler Ballistic tips.

My advice would be, buy it... Slap a quality optic on it and never look back. As for me I use the Leupold 3-9x40, it was under $200.

Good Luck!
