my dream gun is a .308 semi automatic military rifle- preferably along the lines of an m14 for accuracy. i found a custom stock i want for it, its a sage tactical stock. i think i want the reciever and barrel from fulton armory and want them to build it, unless there is another place you all could tell me about that can build one like they can. ill use it for anything and every thing from target, hunting, to red dawn if i need to. so my question for you is is there a better gun in .308/7.62x51nato thats semi automatic, accurate and reliable enough? also, wat would a good scope for this gun be? I was thinking a nightforce would be good, something like mil-dot that estimates range. im willing to spend up to $3,000 on the gun and about $1,000 on the scope. im not loaded but id rather have quality over quantity in my gun safe. I'm going to get and LRB reciever.

If your budget is 4000 for the rifle and scope together you should be able to get what you want. If I were you I would just buy the M1a Loaded from springfield. You are going to be changing the stock anyway so the glass bedding on the match and super match is going to go away. You will just be wasting money if you go that route. I also think that fulton and any of the other guys that build them are about 1,000 over priced. Their stuff is probably quality but I have been having really good results from my loaded that I don't think another brand of m1a could beat. It sounds to me like you are going to want a lot of the stuff that you put on there to be professionally done, so why waste money on fulton when you can have your gunsmith do all the work that fulton does for cheaper? just my .02.

Oh and the m1a is probably the gun you want. the fal and the g3 are great but no where near as "cool" as the m14.

For that kind of money think about a polytech M14 for around $700 and then send it out to SEI for the "Crazy Horse" treatment. If you want american get an LRB receiver for the build but I think the polys are just as good if not better. Warbirds will also build your rifle for a little cheaper than SEI. For $1000 you are probably best off with a Leupold mk4 of some sort, Zeiss Conquest with target knobs or maybe an IOR tactical for a little more $$.

Have Smith Enterprise, Inc. custom build an M21A5/CH for you on a Chinese Poly Tech or Norinco receiver.
The LRB receiver is OK, but it will cost you more money and eat into you budget.

Here is my M21A5/Crazy Horse built on a heel stamped Poly Tech receiver.
SEI builds extremely accurate and ultra reliable M14s for our military and they can build one for you... Fulton Armory can't make that claim.

The same quality can be had in the more compact MK14 SEI with its shorter 18.0" barrel.
My MK14 SEI Mod 1 custom built on a heel stamped Norinco receiver.
