EAA Witness question

I have had a Witness Elite Match 10mm for several years. It is SA-only and has what I'd characterize as a "toy" safety--very low activation effort required--so I wouldn't carry it. It sure shoots nice, though, and I think I've only had one failure in three years and maybe a thousand rounds.

Not long ago, I got a DA/SA version (the standard Witness, I think--used) with a slightly shorter slide thinking it would make a decent carry gun. (As an aside, Tagfolio makes a 10mm Witness with a decocker, but EAA doesn't import it for some reason--I think they did for a little while around 1999 but I've never seen one). Since I get around 1 FTE per mag, that hasn't really worked out. I've tried my always-reliable factory mags in it and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Religious cleaning and lubrication didn't help. I'm going to replace the springs next but I think I need to find a reliable gunsmith to look at it.

Anyway, here's the point of my post. I just tried the mag that came with the Witness in the Elite, and it got jammed in the gun and I had to screw around and take off the grips to get a hold on it before I could get the empty magazine out. When I investigated further, I found that mag is slightly wider on the bottom inch or so than the other factory mags (I haven't measured it, but it can't be as much as a millimeter). It fits fine in the other gun. Both kinds have factory "T in triangle" marks stamped on them, and both are stamped "10 mm." There is a slight visual difference--the wider mag has a pressed-in groove that stops just at the wider spot. The others all have a groove that continues to the bottom. My bad for forcing it into place to start with, but it didn't really take THAT much force--I just whacked it into place with my palm like you usually do it a mag is a bit reluctant.

It doesn't seem to be a manufacturing flaw--both kinds look intentional. So, my question for the EAA experts: whatsup? Are there really two "flavors" of EAA 10mm mags and EAA 10mm pistols that are nearly but not exactly the same? It seems like you wouldn't design something this way, but what do I know? The pistols look pretty much the same except for length of slide, but they DO fit a bit different in a holster.

Thanks for any advice, including the obvious observation that I'm a dumbass. I always learn something from everyone on the site.

I believe there are more than two flavors.

Biggest knock with the Witness pistols is the magazines. Too many minor variations in bodies and followers. Hard to count on any particular Witness magazine functioning in any particular pistol.

Only the .45ACP versions have been trouble free for me where Steel & Polymer Witness, Elite Match, Stock and Limited have all interchanged except for a few base-plate issues with using some mags in the Limited.

The 9mm, .40S&W and 10mm have all been a hassle getting spare mags that work :(

The Tanfoglio Witness guns used to be on two separate frames, a large and small like CZ used, with their CZ97 and CZ75. The large was for the longer rounds, .38 Super, 10mm and .45 Auto, the small was for the shorter rounds, 9mm and .40 S&W. At some point the Witness guns went to a mid-size frame so they could use one frame size for all calibers. I suspect you may have used a mag from a large frame in a medium framed gun.

However, I learned within the last few weeks, some of the competition guns are still available in either a large or small frame. One of the real CZ/Tanfoglio/Witness experts will be along soon to help you and correct my errors.

You have the opposite of the problem I had with my 10mm witness. Mine would throw the brass at least 50 feet. Nowhere near a failure to eject.
