Ear protection

When I hunt with my .243, I don't use ear protection, and it doesn't bother me. Don't know if that's because I'm so focused on the shot that I block it out and just don't become conscious of it or not.

I see people say that, and then I see the older sorts at gun shows with massive hearing aids in both ears and they still need to read your lips to understand what you said.

Adds up.

I'm only 44 now and have been shooting regularly since age 30 or so give or take.
Well nearly all my shooting buddies atleast 3 and one who swears he can hear fne but can'r hear a thing already wear hearing aids and I'm ready now, went to the Dr. in Dec and the next time in I'll be going to the ear Doc.
Only my opinion.
Spend the money, my son is only 14 and I won't let him near a gun without hearing protection.

I don't/wouldn't worry about it. I've already suffered hearing loss from shooting w/o protection when I was young (we didn't worry muvh about it then)....And in a true HD/SD situation, I don't really care if I become permenantly deaf, if it saves my life, or that of my family.

I don't see why electronic hearing protection is so expensive. I made my own set of stereo electronic protection by modifying a $8 set I got at walmart, all the electronics (microphones, speakers, amplifiers, etc) cost $3. It's a little ghetto looking, but it works as proof that people are getting ripped off.
