Senator Larry Craig (Idaho) uses the correct terminology. I like to propose that we stop using the anti-gun invented term of "assault weapon" for these guns.
Semiautomatic weapons ban expires
On Monday, September 13, 2004 the decade-long ban on some semiautomatic firearms will expire. This ban was based on misinformation about the nature of semiautomatics and driven by the false notion that gun bans can curb crime. In truth, these guns aren’t any faster, meaner, or more powerful than guns that aren’t banned. As for the ban’s impact on crime, the results are in: Semiautomatics were used in fewer than 3% of gun crimes before the ban, and they’re used in fewer than 3% of gun crimes today. The 1994 law’s restrictions only burdened law-abiding citizens and businesses, not criminals. I am pleased that Congress has decided not to renew this piece of bad legislation.
