I heard about this idea of encoded ammunition with the abolition of reloading a year or two ago and thought it was just some ridiculous idea no one would really entertain. And here we have it. Legislatures around the country are looking into this idea. People, this is really scary.

Think about the possibilities....

I buy a box of ammo with cartridges and bullets with a number associated with me. I take them to the range. Some BG picks up my cartridge and reloads it (yeah, like he will follow the rules) and then kills some poor fool with it.

Or what about reloading. We have to pay even higher prices (it is not exactly economical now) for ammo so the manufacturers can add their little encoding. And the cost of the database, and the errors, and the abuse...... oh, oh, oh, the humanity!!!

Seriously, though, I cannot believe legislators are looking at this as a possibility.

I am curious what everyone thinks what will happen. How are legislators reacting to this around the country? What is the NRA doing about it? And the reloading industry (which it would kill)?

This just seems like the brainchild of some academic liberal that thinks everyone plays by the rules.

I have joked about my cap and ball revolver, but I may actually have to start using it again.

It's just another way around the second amendment. The legislators have figured out that it's increasingly difficult to pass legislation dealing with guns so now they're pursuing the ammunition.

I think it's the brainchild of someone looking for a way to sell micro-engravers. And the idiots we keep electing are buying into it.

There is no way the founding fathers could have envisioned such a device so it should not be protected. Back to flintlocks for all of us except we can't have lead for ammo because it migh be unintentionally toxic to some animal somewhere.
