I'm thinking about getting myself a Golden Boy 22 for my birthday this year and I'd like to add a personal touch to it. I was thinking about having my last name engraved on each side of the receiver along with some scroll work and such. I have experience with engraving and have no idea where to turn to.

Being a Golden Boy, it's not exactly a super expensive gun, so I'd rather not spend a huge amount of money on the engraving. Just something to make the gun my own, but still use it as a shooter. Any advice or recommendations on where I could look to have the work done? I know that Henry has a factory option for engraving, but I don't care for the style that they offer.

There's one of their catalogs in our range Club House. Henry will engrave it for you. The "receiver" is really just a shiny cover that you can take off and mail to them. (Kind of like those old replica BB guns you used to be able to buy where the gun itself was buried inside a sheet metal or plastic shell that just looked like the gun it was replicating.) Not like a solid brass framed gun of old times.

A big part of why they're so very cheap.

I know Henry can do engraving. I just don't like the style they offer. One side of the receiver has what looks like a parchment scroll that you can put up to 20 words in. Not what I'm looking for.

If the part is removable (as stated) what about taking it to one of the "everything personalized" type shops in a mall? The ones that usually do jewelry boxes and wedding cake knife sets and stuff like that?

Find a trophy shop and ask them if they can laser engrave the removable portion--some can only do very thin/flat plates. You can choose from their engraving styles or ask them what file formats they accept and provide an image of exactly what you want.

Most trophy shop lasers won't work on the brass. The issue lies with the wavelength the laser operates in. It wont cut/remove metal.

Olympus, PM me if you want to pursue it.

Is the brass not a plating or coating of some sort over an alloy? I would think the cover would have to be refinished after it was engraved.

the reciever cover is easily removed, and HRA will sell you a replacement if you either A)want a spare ... or ... B) booger up the original

Since the "receiver" is not solid brass, engraving will show as silver through the brass coating. Depending on your preferences, this may look okay or not.

Jewelers "engrave" plaques and other items with a pantograph device that uses a diamond cutter to scratch the design or lettering into the metal.
If you don't look real close, it doesn't look too bad, but you're limited to what design plates or letters styles they have.
In other words they may be able to engrave some text or they may have some simple design plate, but you won't be able to have something custom done.

Also, it depends if the receiver can be properly locked into the machine without damaging the part, and tightly enough that it won't slip or even pop out.
In either event, the part is toast.
