I was going through my pile of tupperware containers, looking for a Glock 26 that my daughter wants, and I rediscovered my old duty gun. I was like "Hello Sexy, I missed you". I carried it for years through a lot of shifts and on warrants, and into a couple of scuffles and never let me down. After I retired, I started carrying a Glock 23 and she just got stuck in the pile in the safe and kind of forgotten about. She's going to come out and be my teaching gun.

Which of you ne're do wells has a gun you love, but forgot about?

I was just looking at that dark corner of my safe a saw my old mini 14 , used to have a lot of fun with that rifle and I have not shot it in 20 + years it just sits in the back and gets skipped over by the ones in front , I really need to dig it out and take it shooting

The Mini 14 is one of those I regret getting rid of.

Here's another one. My first issue gun out of the academy. When they gave us Gen 2 Glock 17s, and took our revolvers away...I may or may not have forgot to return this to the department. I shot my way to MASTER in USPSA in REVOLVER with this old butter smooth Model 15. It was actually the first gun I ever took to Gunsite back in 1989. Me and one other guy were shooting revolvers in a class full of 1911s. I wore my duty belt, and double speedloader pouch because I figured that is most likely what I would be wearing if things went sideways. The armorer heard I was going to Gunsite and gave me 10 (150 rounds each) bags of .38 +P LSWC ammo to use and said "You compete, or go to a class...come see me for ammo". Those were good times.

Oh Heck. I forgot this was in "handguns" and not "general."

Mine would be my Sears-Roebuck 12 gauge, 3" Magnum pump. I can't say I shot it a lot, but it was my buckshot gun. I carried it many a mile in a gun rack in my Bronco, strapped to roll bar of a Jeep, tossed in the back of a pickup truck, or slung over my shoulder on a sling. It never let me down. Every deer it was ever pointed at hit the ground and never got up again.

I did the camo job myself. That's right. I'm "Bubba." Have been all my life. My wife thought it was an insult the first time she heard me called that. :)

It's not the shooting I remember. It's frosty mornings on stand, sun just up, hearing a tailgate drop, the dog driver start up with "Hikeeeee, Hikkkeee....then a dog hits...woooooo...woooooo....the sound changes...HE's UP...the entire pack cuts in...WOOOO WOOOOO...the chase turns, and heads toward me. I'm on full alert now. Watching toward the sound, but remembering to check 360. Never know how far ahead of the dogs he might be, or there might be another one trying to sneak out of the area.

I don't hunt anymore. I got distracted by little green fish and a bass boat and went to fishing all year long. But on a early fall morning, I find myself missing it. Not so much the hunting even. I miss the guys at the club. Some of them are gone now. We're all a lot older. The land and the laws have changed. The club house burned down, and someone built a big new house there. I don't know where or even IF they still have a club. I'm now one of those old guys who would get there about 9 am, may-be and never go into the woods, but would park their trucks and just listen for the dogs, and to the CB radio to keep up with what was going on. I wonder, do they even use CB's anymore? Probably not. It's probably cell phone and text messages.

But anyway, I still have that Sears pump gun. I see it every time I open the safe to get out a handgun. I'll take it out once in a while and clean and oil it. I wonder of it's got aches and pains now?

Maybe I'll get it out later, and talk to it a bit.

My Thompson Center Hawken in 50 caliber. I hadn’t used it in many years as I had a TC Thunderhawk and a MK with thumb hole stock that are both scoped. Now that NY has opened a holiday hunt for muzzle loaders between Christmas and New Years I have brought the old girl out of mothballs again.

My Browning Buckmarks. Because much of my focus is handholding, I rarely shoot the .22’s any longer. Part of the problem was ammo cost and availability, but part of it is… I just don’t shoot 22’s anymore.

I bought my first Buck in 1987, when I was stationed at Fort Carson, CO. I would go to the mountains nearly every weekend and burn through a brick of ammo… back when it was .99/box! Once I got out, in 1989, my interests turned to center fire… and the rimmys started to gather dust on the shelf.

If I loved it it would have never been in the dark recesses of the safe.

Yeah, but I'm kinda slutty. I have a BUNCH of guns, and I love a lot of them. Some are like top chicks, some are like bottom chicks, and some are like side chicks. Then again some of them are like that ugly chick you dig because she's extra freaky, but you never admit to your friends that you shoot her.

Brother! If a Glock turns you on....Lord.😄

I dug out and shot my Helwan (Beretta 1951) 9mm yesterday, it’s a gun that I haven’t shot in at least 5-7 years (or more). (Of course the extractor chipped, so its now awaiting a replacement.) 🤪

It’s certainly not a gun I love, nor is it svelte, sexy or remotely cute, but it is one of several that are somewhat neglected as it keeps getting pushed to the back of the line when it’s range time.

Stay safe.

Nice. I never chased the elusive whitetail in MI with a charcoal burner.

Rifle:
The older I get the more I enjoy shooting my old 30-30 and 357/45C lever guns. 3000+ fps and super long effective shooting ranges don't make that much difference any more.

Handguns:
The newest 9 I have was made in the 80s and serves its purpose. When I want to target shoot its usually with my 45colt SAA, 1911 45acp, a 38spl, or 22RF. For CC its a chief spl and I have to say for the past 40+ years just 5 bullets and a snubby barrel have worked 100% of the time.

Negative, you will remember the best ever.

My mom was from MI. My paternal grandfather had a cabin up in Glennie on the Au Sable. I used to go up and hunt every November until he passed in 2018.

Pretty country up there. We have friends that own a cabin just off off the Wakely Bridge launch of the Au Sable and I still hunt whitetail nearby there every November. Nothing like spending a late summer afternoon canoeing the river either—I love that place.

I tried to buy the cabin, but there was a fight among my aunts and uncles over the estate and one thing led to another and everything was sold off via court order to satisfy the vultures. Yet one more reason why I prefer strangers to some parts of my family.

All the time. Like when I looked at my Ruger Old Army and was like, gosh this is nice. I haven't fired it since I first got it back in 2018.

I don't have any that I have completely forgotten but some seldom get shot. In fact none for about a year now.

Probably a few still do. I have a couple that haven't been turned on in years. Before cell phones we fished quite a lot with my wife's oldest sister and her husband and we had them in our boats. It didn't take long to learn a few tricks. We would each go to a separate spot and if one found fish would call the other. We kept the volumn low, didn't get in a hurry to leave, and since we knew where each was going just said "come over here". That kept a bunch of boats from following you. No hole poachers needed. As soon as cell service was available we switched but still made it casual when we left. Anyone rushing to leave still drew some followers. Lake Spence and Elephant Butte was bad about this.
