Ok folks... I've been looking at various brassfetcher.com HP penetration tests in ballistic gelatin. This stuff is pretty unpleasant, but I'm curious about the depth of expansion of Hollow Points. I noticed that in a lot of the hollow points (and other bullets) exhibit a sort of shockwave effect at a certain point in their path through the gelatin. Is that shockwave the point where the bullet expands?

God forbid I should ever have to use these (or any ammo) on a human being, but the engineer in me is curious what depth these things start expanding. Regardless, I know it's the most responsible thing to use in a self defense scenario to avoid over penetration and possibly injury to an innocent.
