Yeah, I use the Tipton ultimate range box/ cleaning kit and the plastic/polymer Picks are ok but for that dried on stained in crud around say, the breach face of a 1911, I've always needed something with a little scraping power to get that crud out. most of the time I soak the crack for a while then carefully go at it with a pick, then soak some more. of course, I might be a little OCD with some stuff
but clean is clean right?
