Does anybody know if someone makes a "Limbsaver" type grind-to-fit replacement pad that is at least 5"x2"?

The benchrest stock I'm making has a bit of a "squared" profile at the bottom end, so the commonly available elliptical shape pads leave the corners uncovered (or the pad too short). The profile is more like a coffin-shape. The XL Limbsaver pad I'd bought for the occaision is turning up ~1/4" too short (since it tapers at the ends).

I'd like to do something "nicer" than a flip-flop (though they do work well;))

The Limbsaver Large Grind-to-Fit, mod: 10543 is: 5 9/16" x 2 1/16"

Grindable to: 4 7/16" x 1 19/32"

Yeah, that's the one I have currently. Like I said, it's barely long enough and wide enough, but its ends are so rounded they don't cover the corners of the rifle butt. Can the foam/rubber these things are made of be purchased in sheet? That may work better for my application; my stock profile is a bit "blockier" than most of the sporter stocks these add-ons are meant for.

I doubt you can buy just the rubber cell. depending on your length of pull requirements, you could use plastic/rubber spacers, much like McMillan's spacer system.

You can get them from Brownells http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-t...rs/hard-rubber-buttstock-spacer-prod9650.aspx

Use a couple of those to taper from your stock to the recoil pad you want to use.

Generally, to use this system, the stock is shortened to allow for adjustability, or provide the proper LOP.

???

The large LS pads (like the one I have) are barely too small for my project. I'll find a substitute, though, somewhere.

Because it's a .308, meant for shooting from a bench, and I'd prefer something other than a metal plate on my shoulder. Dense foam rubber pads are inexpensive, durable, and effective at reducing peak recoil impulse to the shoulder. If there's a more customizable option out there than a screw-on, grind to fit pad, I'm all ears. I'd just like something nicer than a flip-flop for a pad :)

Once this stock is finished, I need to start working on a replacement stock for my (soon to be) Steyr M95 in 50 Alaskan--recoil mitigation will be much more important in that stock, so solutions I find now will be very useful later.
