Eye relief with scopes

I like the glass on the DBs pretty well, but yeah short and fairly critical eye relief makes them a bit harder to use.
Ive had/have a few scopes with shortish eye relief, but for some reason the DBs are more annoying.

Ive never seen a venom in person, im curious about them.
Without it mounted, it seems to be pretty clear. Vortex podcast did a video comparing the Venom to the Strike Eagle line months ago and it was informative. If I recall, the Venom glass is the same glass as the Strike Eagle but I don't remember. Would have to watch the video again. They consider the Venom to be their entry level...which is odd because the Crossfire and DB exist at lower price points.

Off hand Id guess they mean entry competition scopes. The CF and DB are more hunting line, tho the DBT straddles the line of s competition scope, its missing some features guys seem to want.

Thanks for the link ill give it a watch.

Kind of hard to tell in picture, but there is a HUGE difference in optic size between my DB 4-12x40 and my new Venom 3-15x44.

34mm tube scopes are like that lol. My 2-16x50 Forge is huge even compared to my 6.5-20x50 Meopta or simmons.....or 30mm tube 50s lol.....the meopta is longer, but not nearly as massive

Then theres thr 56mm Arken lol, that thing out weights my dads 10-50x60 sightron

I may get a 20" barrel for the rifle, so having a 34mm tube is going to be nice. Will I ever get out to 1000 yards? No idea but it's on my bucket list.

I'm coming from using exclusively 3-9x32mm scopes. The first 3-9x40mm that I had was a Bushnell XLT stainless that came out with the Bone Collector line back in 2013 I think it was.

Well you have the gear to get it done when you have the opportunity. My dad mad his first hits at 1k with a Sightron Stac 3-16 and my parts rifle.
Shooting at longer distances is both fun and addicting......once you pop you cant stop

I think the range Hornady now manages is only out to 300 yards. Most others out here are 100 yard. Finding out to 1000 is easier said than done. Don't talk to any of the farmers out here that might be willing.

Any public land you could set up a target on a hillside?
Thats what we do, theres only one "official" range here.

Not that I'm aware of. I kid you not, 90% of the land in Nebraska is privately owned farm land. The other 10 is state line.

Last summer after I got my PSA PA10, I bought a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x44 scope for it. I got it because at the time and price, it seemed pretty good. Got the scope with a Vortex cantilever mount, because the guy at Scheels said it's best to buy same company scope mounts because of machining and whatever other crap...think he just wanted the extra $120 that day because sales. Anyway, went back there like a week later to have them mount and bore sight the scope to the rifle, while at the same time I looked for a case for it. After they had mounted and supposedly bore sighted the scope, when I have shouldered the rifle, it seems like I don't have enough eye relief. I have to pull my head closer to the scope. I think they had mounted the scope with the stock fully collapsed.

So now I have a Vortex Venom 3-15x44 that I'll be mounting on the rifle at some point and putting the Diamondback on my Mossberg 800a .308. This Venom supposedly has better eye relief. When I bring it in to have it mounted and bore sighted, should I have them do it with the stock fully adjusted out, or does that not matter and I'm just complaining? When I had held the scope in the store, I had no issues with looking through it clearly, but mounted, it's all blurred and I really struggle getting a good picture through it.

Would mount it myself, but I don't have a vise or any of the tooling to do it.

This is why I mount my own scopes. When I mount and boresight for others' guns at work, I am SWAGging it as far a eye relief, unless I do it on the gun counter vise while they are right there. Usually the counter guys send the gun downstairs to me at the bench.

Also, be sure you set the diopter ring on the back of the scope for YOU. The person who mounted it may have moved it.

Ops pic (#55 post) shows scope a bit rearward.
Most folks set em up w the rear of the scope even w charging handle.
Post #1 says he has to move fwd to look in the scope, w stock collapsed?
Doesn't make sense.

I might have mistyped it. With the stock fully extended, I would have to move the scope rearward to get a clearer sight picture. There's maybe 1/4" left on the tube where that would be possible.

Well that sucks! If your ever on the Big Island look me up and id be happy to take you upto where we shoot.
I have family living in Lincoln, NE.

Same offer if you are at the west coast where tall redwoods and spruce trees rein. Lots of BLM shooting areas around here.

Most of us have stock "length of pull" that is accommodated with scope mounted right above the charging handle. But that maybe due to around 4" "eye relief" scopes. OP has scope with 3.1" eye relief which means scope needs to move back an inch and that's what we could be seeing from OP's picture.

Diamondback is mounted with 3.1" eye relief and Venom with 3.7" eye relief should move the scope forward to be more above charging handle.

A stock that adjusts is pretty sweet when clothing changes
T shirt summer chucks vs coat and winter yotes.
Side note, my wife wants me to change the stock to a fixed position one. So I may ha e to get a PRS style with adjustable length, comb and one with a monopod because why not?

You don't move the mounts usually; you simply loosen the rings and slide the scope back inside the rings. If it has a picatinny rail then you may have room to also move the mounts also.

That's why I went with "adjustable" fixed stock for many reasons (And one that accommodates stowable aluminum monopod).

Here's my 20" fluted barrel .223 Wylde AR with Strike Industries Viper Modular Fixed Stock with stowable monopod - https://www.strikeindustries.com/si-strike-mfs-pod.html

(Don't worry about the "evil" features as receiver is RAW)

Ever since PSA dropped the M110 clone a few months back, I've been really eyeing the Forged version. But man that thing goes out of stock so fast.
