It's a Remington 700BDL with an aftermarket SPS stock, Leupold rings and mounts and a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40.
It is officially my "meat gett'r gun"...I call her "the black widow".
She ain't pretty, but she gets the job done.

Remmy 700 with an el'cheapo Tasco scope. For the longest time, I could not get this gun to shoot worth a damn, but this year it finally came around for me. Was my first actual deer rifle to call my own...a Christmas present from my father. I've almost traded it or sold it several times, but just can't bring myself to it. I shall bloody it this year on a bambi or two.

Several Winchester Model 70's , all good shooters with handloads, Husquevarna(sp?) FWT from very early 50's, good shooter but european style stock allowed a lot of felt recoil, very early Savage 110(1957?), good shooter. 270 Winchester is a very good cartridge and consistently repeatable on most any platform.

This is my Remington 7400 in 270win been a great gun bought brand new about 8 years ago I had to replace the rear stock with a youth shock to get it comfortable in my arms I have only put about 40 rounds through her.

My Only draw back is that with it being a semi auto it has some waight to it but at the time I could not aford to order a bolt action in a left handed modle and maybe some day I will be able to get one. I have been happy with this I do like the 270 round

Yep the writings of Mr O'Conner can be seen in my safe. I bought a Ruger #1 in .270 Weatherby as my first center fire rifle, great gun. Now have a Remington 7400 and Leftie 700 both in .270 Win.

Someday may have to add a .270 Weatherby in a left hand bolt action.

As long as you don't start adding letters behind it (e.g.: WSM)...I like it. The .270Win is a great cartridge that will be around for a long...long...time.

My Baby

I have a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 win with a Mueller 3-9x40 sport dot scope. It is my go to rifle and has never let me down. I let it down one time with a miss on an Alabama doe at 125yrds in freezing cold (at least for a Florida boy). I use 130 gr Hornady SP at a hair under 3000 fps. I just never had another rifle that will drop game as fast (including feral boar hogs). Don't know what it is but this caliber just works way beyond expectations. Never shot anything but 130 grain in it with .75" 100 yd groups off a bipod. What more can I say.

I am quite pleased with my weatherby vgx delux in .270... getting it used with a leupold vxIII and essentially paying the price of the scope was a definite plus. It will be my longer range deer rifle with my glenfield/marlin model 30 being my primary shorter range rifle.


not to say my .257 rbts and cz 527 varmint wont be seeing any action.. they will just be secondary... at least for now.

That is the best looking stock on a ruger I have ever seen a pic of. Gosh that is pretty.
But, you need to quit skimping on glass...........

I grew up reading Jack O'conner, and my dad has a Winchester model 70 in 270. My first 270 was a Remington 700 Classic (1982). Since that time I have owned over 11 different makes and models in 270 Winchester, and I am about to build another

DoubleA, I find your rifle interesting in that I have never seen a factory rifle with an ebony tip on the stock. The only exception is the Ultralight and the Express rifles, which I do not think it is either (unless you took the sights off the Express Rifle). Is it a special run or special order from Ruger?

Gosh dubbleA that is one nice chunk of lumber on that Ruger.

I got nothing but respect for the big game 270 cartridges including the 270 Win, 270 Weatherby, and 270 WSM. There is either something almost magical about them, or people who have them tend to shoot them well... or both. Because every Deer and Elk I ever seen shot with a 270 cal is either DRT or can be found within 40 yards.

The fastest I've ever seen a bull Elk go down was hit by a single 270 Win 130 Grain at about 175 Yards. Saw a guy drop a Mule Deer at a measured 417 yards with one shot from a 270 140 grain Hornady.
