Ok... I like to read Fark.com It can be pretty darned funny and some of the photoshop contests are not to be believed. However, the majority of posters there seem to be pretty liberal.
There was a thread there today involving the discussion of ownership of firearms and I crossed swords with a poster. I tried to be High road about things (had a minor deviation) but as I want to be a good representative of 2A rights advocates I'd appreciate your input regarding how you thought I presented my case.
Him: Sub machine guns are a sub set of Machine guns. To say a sub machine gun isn't a machine gun is like saying a compact car isn't a car it's a compact car. The "hyphen" between "sub" and "machine" means "sub" further describes the "machine gun".
Now before anyone figures me for a gun hater I shoot regularly and own plenty of guns. I feel like the small-dick (see? it describes the dick) full auto nuts only serve to fuel anti-gun sentiment especially since most of them can't shut the fark up about what they have and they can't resist fueling the stereotype by posting their redneck ass on Youtube. Genius.
I personally think most guys buying AKs, AR's and shiat are really more concerned with compensating for their undersized peckers than they are with shooting sports.
When we lose our right. I will blame you fags.
Him: If I wanted to compensate for something, a 5.56mm round isn't exactly the Ron Jeremy of ammunition...
Why not use 223? On a recoil-reducing wooden stock with a nice Monte Carlo? Why do you need all the AR Bullshiat? I bet your flash suppressor must really be useful shooting cans.
Me: When they try to come and deprive us of our 2A guaranteed rights, I will blame people like you because of your elitist attitude.
Don't be such a Fudd. Cars all provide transportation. Do you get all irked at folks because they choose to purchase a sports car or SUV rather than a minivan or station wagon?
And I own an AR to be able to defend my home in the event of another Katrina or LA Riot, or some such. Just like I keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. It has an effective and readily available caliber for my needs and is light enough/light recoiled enough for my wife to handle or for an injured person to be able to handle effectively. All the "AR bullshiat" simply makes the rifle more ergonomic and lighter weight.

You are a pulled pork-inhaling, Skoal-dipping, Ford F150 POS-driving, Mullet-clad simpleton. I wish you all the displeasure your life of ignorance holds in store for you.
The mere assertion that an AR is the weapon of choice for domestic protection tells me you are exactly the idiot that will ruin it for the rest of us.
Thanks a million, Jed.
Me:As for your allegations... Hardly. I'm educated, fairly libertarian in my political views and cannot abide by the idea of a nanny-state. I'm also a nursing student. I've seen the damage that firearm can be used to inflict on someone. I've seen some real tragedies - some truly heartbreaking tragedies. I've also seen that the preponderance of folks rolling into my ER with GSWs pretty much had them coming to them. Gang Bangers and other criminals are playing the odds and their lifestyles/pursuits are not conducive to dying of old age.
I believe that the Constitution and the BOR mean exactly what they say. "Shall not be infringed" means just that. Free citizens of the USA should have the unfettered right to keep and bear any kind of firearm they so choose.
I believe in personal accountability. An inanimate object of any design has no moral will or volition of its own. It takes a man or a woman to use something for good or evil ends. If you don't like the looks of the "Evil Black Rifle," fine. Don't get one. I can appreciate a well made wood-stocked precision bolt action rifle, etc. as well as the next person whose interests lie in that direction. However, I have chosen the AR platform for the reasons I explained earlier.
It really is beyond me as to how you would have a problem with keeping a rifle (one that has been designed to be light weight, easy to handle/maintain, and handle fairly crappy field conditions) for the purpose of home defense during a worst case scenario.
I'm not anywhere close to being of a mind to set up a compound in Montana and separate myself from the rest of society... stockpiling food and supplies while waiting for the world to come to a nuclear end. Sorry to disappoint you. What I am, though, is a responsible free citizen of the United States of America who has purchased a rifle that is fully in compliance with every law in the state in which I reside. I am responsible for the safety of my wife and two small children and I take that duty very seriously. Up until seven years ago, the prospect of a terrorist attack on domestic soil seemed to be a far fetched proposition. It isn't so beyond the realm of possibility now, now is it? The possibility is thankfully remote that it would occur wher e I live, but it is definitely there. The LA riots of '92 and the social meltdown of New Orleans when Katrina destroyed that city graphically illustrated that there can very definitely be a substantial period of time in which emergency services may not be able to attend to your area when you need them most - and there are those who would seek to take advantage of that. If you are not able to protect yourself, then you will fall prey to them and quite possibly die.
I'm not willing to base the safety of my family on the earnest hope that bad things don't happen to good people. It seems to me, danlpoon, that you suffer from the elitist, Zumbo mindset. Get over it. Fast. We either stand together or we will all fall separately. Because after they make my evil black rifle illegal, they'll be coming for your high powered sniper rifle - er... Hunting/sporting rifle. I most sincerely hope you snap out of this misconception under which you are operating. Supporters of the second amendment do not need to be divided in our loyalties.
Me: And pulled pork rules!
