Favorite semi-auto carbine round

In the spirit of polls, here's one I didn't find in the Search function. Pick your favorite caliber in a semi-auto carbine. I left out the 30-06 and 30 carbine, but I guess those could go under other. Optional: post your favorite rifle that shoots your favorite caliber, pics welcome.

I voted 7.62 nato. A 7.62 Garand is simply too much fun for my Budget.(Though I insist on pushing it.)

You missed a big one, and my current favorite: 5.45x39mm. Several million AK-74s can't be wrong!

My favorite is 6.8SPC . Good for hunting medium size game out to 300 yards.

7.62X39!

What it lacks in range, it makes up in hard-hitting punch and the ability to penetrate things like walls and brush in tactical situations. Its still a lot cheaper than 5.56/.223 and many other rounds.

almost nobody went with the 7.62x39! i'm disapointed guys. although i'd only use my wasr 10 for target shooting. it is quite an innaccurate gun, but a fun one.

This is to "second" CornCod and "spazzy".
7.62x39, partly because I have a heap.
It is simply more fun to shoot than .223 because of the stronger recoil of the Mini 30/SKS (versus 14), and more damage done to solid targets.

Surplus .303 might not qualify, but if you have ever used/owned a Lee-Enfield #5 "Jungle Carbine",
you might agree, recoil pad or not.

Both the LE carbine's handiness and power make up for the recoil. Very portable and fairly light.
If a disaster ever happens, these two #5s will be my 'shtf' guns (but if kept by the car driver's seat, a Mini 30).

I kinda messed up the poll by forgetting the 5.45x39mm, as was pointed out. Should have put the .30 cal carbine on there too.

Personally, my vote would almost have to be the 22LR, which is why I thought to include it in the poll. My 22LR is the one carbine I have that I can actually afford to shoot hundreds of rounds a week with.

Exclusive of the .30Carbine...which is obviously the greatest carbine cartridge of all time and space (see Planet of the Apes for details)...it even tells you that in the name, I would have to vote for the .223/5.56, with 7.62x39mm as an honorable mention.

Ok for all out fun AND conversions=practice the .22LR has to be the end all be all.

I have not used the 6.8SPC enough but man does it look promissing!!

Walking the planet against all comers...2 and 4 leg...7.62x51 FN-FAL tricked out.

Budy of mine back in the States has an FAL clone in 5.56x45...Like to try that in 6.8SPC as the weapon was originaly designed in that power level.

while I own 2 of the others I voted pistol-caliber since I have the 2 Marlin Camps in 9mm and .45acp (my favorite it's a tack driver) the 9mm I have a red-dot and hi-cap mags for, loads of fun to shoot, accurate and shooter-friendly in case I have to 'loan' it out to a friend or family member caught w/out a gun in bad situs.

308 or 7.62 NATO

I like the 308 for most any role one can put a rifle round in. Perhaps the 223 is better for vermin, and I do use one for that purpose.

Even though it has a bit more recoil, it is certainly a very effective cartridge.

I went with 5.56/.223, but it was a tough call between that and the 22lr. (sometimes i like to just light up the hillside)

For self/home defense - 5.56x45

It shoots flat, low recoil, commonly available and a proven SD round, perfect for point blank out to 200yds.

For plinking and range fun - 7.62x39

Low cost, low recoil, makes easy to see holes in paper, don't have to worry about chasing down all the brass.

22LR is cheap and fun too, but it doesn't have the bang as these other two.

I'm going to agree with many people on here, you missed the .30 Carbine. I love the Cartridge, theres hardly any recoil but it isn't a .22LR. However I voted 7.62x39mm
