Went to the MCX (Marine Corps Exchange) yesterday - work there on weekends and was asked to bring out the 2 new rifles in the back.

One was the Kel-Tec 9mm with Beretta mag and the other was a L1A1!!!

I ripped open the box to find it filthy and slight rust, and one good looking mag and one that was rusted all over to where it was bright orange.....:(

I was then told there was another in the back - thinking I was about to find the same thing, I went back and found it and pulled it out - needs oil. No rust, not filthy, and the mags look brand new.

I am now awaiting my approval from the State Police to take her home. Guess she'll keep the other 2 semi-auto .308s I have company (Saiga .308 and Springfield M1A).

CrossFire has mags for $15.00 - think I'll order about 8 of them and be off to the range as soon as it warms up and stops raining.

:D

Congrats:D I have a STG58,very simular:cool: but on the mags ,and I could be wrong here,but check Tapco@
1-800-554-1445 because they had them for $4.99 EACH:what: ,not counting all the other neat stuff they have;)

Good shooting:D

Yup...check with TAPCO, $15 is way too much too pay for an FAL mag. Unless you're talking a new in wrap Belgian.

Gotta find out if it's inch or metric

I looked at TAPCO and the Metric are $4.99, I have to go look and see if mine is metric or inch - I printed out a page that told how to tell the difference:

metric - small front locking lug, and slim floorplate (not wider than the magazine)

inch - large, beefy front locking lug, and wider than the magazine floorplate....

Thanks for the info at TAPCO.

Inch mags are very hard to come by right now. We only have a couple in the system and they are going for 14.99 each. Our metrics are still $4.99. I wish we could find some inch mags, but we can't. :banghead:

Yes Nightcrawler, it is a Century Arms L1A1.

Have a couple of their rifles and so far I have gotten good ones.

I have heard the Century Arms products aren't any good, but the other 2 I have work fine and have had nothing bad to say about them.

Hope this one is too. I looked it over a few minutes and have not found anything wrong with it. Well, the rear sight is tight and hard to lift up. Planning on putting a 3x9 or 4x12 scope on top of it sometime or another and see how it goes.

So far I like it.....

:)

If it is a Century gun there is a good chance it was built on a metric receiver. Even if the gun was built on a inch receiver it doesn't matter, they take both inch and metric mags.

Really???

I can use metric or inch mags?

Pay day is tomorrow - I might have to give you a call TC109....I'll order one and see it functions - if so, I'll buy a few more.

Thanks

If it is an "inch" upper receiver (unlikely, but possible, if a CAI) both "inch" and "metric" mags will fit in it - HOWEVER, on the the inch mags will feed reliably. You may experience some nosedives with the metric mags. Go to the FAL Files and search the FAQ to identify which type of upper you have on your gun, then order the appropriate magazine.

FAL Files

I printed out the FAL Files inch and metric mags page and it says:

"a spec metric mag should work in an inch pattern gun, but unless the shape of the front catch is modified on the inch pattern mag it will not fit into a metric gun."

So I'm going to order (1) metric mag and see how it does.

Over at AR-15.com - FAL, it says to replace the:

Gas Piston
Fire Control Parts

for reliablity. Also said to purchase a Bolt Hold Open part to hold the bolt open after the last round is fired - will need the "inch" for that part.

All this it says is at TAPCO so I will have a decent order for them in a few days.....

Congrats on the new rifle - they are fun to shoot.

But whats up with "approval from the State Police " nonsense? Do you really have to ask permission to have one in VA? :fire:

Stoopid Instant Background Check

I got delayed and the State Police call us back with the approval number.....

Strange - I never got delayed before and now it happens everytime....:banghead:

Need a manual - going to look for one now.....

It'll take inch or metric mags

I had a Century L1A1 (traded it off 'cause I didn't like the ergonomics) and it accepted both inch and metric mags. Inch mags fit better, with less slop, however.
