It is not a beauty queen but still odd enough that i want to keep it around and be funcional but safe. The 22 part of the barrel has a slight bulge just under the rear sight. I have looked for a barrel at numrich, ebay, and armslist but cant seem to find one.

Does anyone have a source that might have some take off barrels (preferred) or is it possible to line it? I wonder if it could handle .17 with a liner.

I realize it will not increase in value but i hate to throw it away.

It is possible to line it. A 22/410 with a 17 HM2 barrel would be a terrific squirrel gun, although long term ammo availability would be better with a 22LR reline.

Google "barrel relining" and you'll find lots of places that do it.

A bulge that far back in the barrel should not effect accuracy. I have seen old 22's with multiple rings in the barrel that shot fine, as long as it wasn't at the muzzle.

22-410 barrels

Hi I have hundreds of old barrel sets and I have a pretty nice set for a model 24 in 22-410.
They run 150.00 Thanks Bobby

There is a good option for ya. The M24 should fit. It would cost that much, or more, to re-line .

You might also haunt E-bay and Gunbroker as they come up from time to time. That may take a long time or ?

If the accuracy is good just use it. A bulge or a ring isn't dangerous. I have several .22s with them and they are as accurate as ones without it. I have 2 of each of the models effected so I could try them side by side. Only one that the accuracy was really effected was a Stevens M87 and the ring was about 2 " from the muzzel. Good luck.

It could handle .22 with a liner. Because the liner can not be fully supported by the original barrel, it has to be able to handle the pressure by itself. That is why liners aren't made for high pressure cartridges.

(Yes, I know that when replacing the barrel of a high power rifle would destroy collectibility, the original barrel can be reamed to a shell and a new barrel inserted. But liners are not sold for that purpose, and even so, the new barrel has to be thick enough to handle the full pressure.)

Thanks for all the input. I was intrigued that brownels had .17 or .22 liners for $40. Obviously, the installation is key and i don't have the tools. It might cost The same as a new barrel. Therefore, i may shoot it some more first to verify accuracy and consider the liner only if i change calibers.
