rra upper/dpms lowerand dpms parts kit/mil spec hammer/jp yellow springs and did some polishing/ nikon omega/hydo buffer. crappy cell phone pic will get a new one tommorrow

Fol4321, that's a good looking set up and it's pretty much what I'm waiting to build. I ordered my RRA CAR A4 upper about a month ago. Talked to BJ at RRA and said their lead times on 458 SOCOM rifles/uppers are about 90 days.

Did you find that upper locally or did you order it from RRA and wait? If you waited, how long did it actually take?

Thanks,

Steven

Nice build. I like the cartridge and it is good to see the .458 catching on. It is a MEAN shooter in a small platform.

Since Wilson Combat recently announced they are going to sell barrels, uppers, and other .458 accessories, and Hornady is rumored to be making ammo, I think this thumper's future is looking up.

i got it at a gun show for 550 new. couldnt pass it up. i get my brass and dies tommorrow so next weekend is shooting time!. do you guys have a rec's for a buffer spring. i just got a cheap gun show one(no name) and seems weak. i seen the wolff but i heard the have problems cycling so i might get the dpms spring. i also ordered a longer latch for the charging handle, since the scope is in the way. plus to make it easier with my hands.(disalbed vet). i would like a nicer stock. i got the grip and stock from midway for 30 (ati). i like the grip is feels good and fits tight but the stock isnt all the great at all but it will do for now.

Awesome, I'm a big fan of the 458.

I would like to say, you may want to consider a different stock before putting too many rounds through it though. The recoil of the 458 is pretty stout and has a tendency to cause standard stocks to have an auto-collapse feature. I don't know how robust the ATI stock is but you may want to keep an eye on it.

$550 new is less than dealer price, so yeah, you got a steal on that upper. I paid dealer price for mine and it is considerably more than $550.

My next consideration is what buttstock to run on mine. Sounds like I've got plenty of time to figure it out though.

I like the ACE stock that I put on my 458.It's lite, and very comfortable to shoot the heavier bullets with.
Shooting the 300-325gr bullets, the 458 doesn't have much recoil. But step up to the 405gr and up,and it'll get your attention after a couple magazines.

If you got a complete upper for $550,you did get a steal if it is a new upper.I paid $750 for my upper when I bought it.

Congrads, You built something I have considered putting together myself. Hope it works well for you... The .458 SOCOM with a can would be a mean hog gun set up... just saying.

i dont think i have to worry about the auto collapse since the fitment is so ****ty it took me putting the tube in a vise and pulling with both hands to take it off. i filed the inside and now it slides. and yeah new in the box. the guy got it and has had it for too long so i showed him the cash and he bit. i got 4 boxes of hornady 300 gr hp's im loading up once the dies and brass get here. ups says tommorrow. this is the upper i got

does anyone know how to uplaod pics from a phone without saving to the computer first?

The SOCOM was designed to work with a standard Buffer and Spring...so you won't need to change anything unless you just want to. I run a Tubbs flat spring in mine...but it isn't necessary.

Also, a lot of your questions can be answered here as well:

That's the upper I ordered and I can tell you that the guy you bought it from took a pretty substantial loss on it if it is new.

It is.

Mine came with two different springs but I never used them just the stock spring but never loaded any bullets under 405g.

Are pics from your phone or computer. I can't figure out how to post pics from the phone
