I just read in a gun mag that Europe recently changed their CIP pressure specs on the 7.62x38R ammo to way lower. SO while Fiocchi's website still lists the velocity at 1050fps (or so, out of their test barrel), they are actually now loading it to about 750 fps.

Minus another 80-120fps for the shorter Nagant barrel and you get around the 660 fps chronographed in the article.

Anyone know the Lot number of the ammo which marks the split between 'old-n-hot' and 'new-and-weak'????

It makes some sense from a liability standpoint, but I have to wonder WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would be using a Nagant for self-defence (or other use where that difference might be crucial)?

Someone who dont have anyhting else?

PS Finish this sentence someone...

If ya dont think Nagant ammo is effective just stand there and let me.......

well...

While its true that the lack of availability of decent priced ammo deters one from considering the Nagant more than a target and/or collector's piece, i still just want to know about the ammo.

Figured I'd tap the 12K+ minds worth knowledge base here before trying to email Fiocchi in Italy.

Personally, the gas seal function of the revolver is what makes it a mechanical curiosity worth collecting. My opinion.

It's an interesting design from a mechanical standpoint, but if you can afford the amount that Fiocchi charges for factory Nagant ammo and you NEED a firearm for self-defence, why would you bother even CONSIDERING the Nagant?

Anymoresnappycomebacks?
