I don't know who Chuck Hawks is, but researching a thread comparing the .223 to the .243, I came across his web site. One of the pages was named Firearm Favorites, and I found myself basically agreeing with Chuck. So much so, that I thought I would share with my fellow Highroaders:

http://www.chuckhawks.com/firearm_favorites.htm

But of course, I imagine, most of the experienced TFL and THR folks have already seen this.

Chuck Hawk's websight offers in-depth analysis of a great many rifle cartridges. I rely on it extensively. He's extremely knowledgable, and his information is far from a mere re-hash of the standard "Cartridges of the World." He's also always adding information. I always wondered if he was a member of TFL.

Sent him this e-mail...

Hale and well met, sir!

I was referred to your website by a fellow member of the firearms discussion forum that I regard as the best to be found on the Web: http://www.thehighroad.org/

I wandered around your informational and editorial pages, and I was impressed at the well-considered, clearly expressed material. However, when I looked over your firearms links, I found no references to an obvious discusion board. Since you do have a link to one of our own, the much respected Oleg Volk, I would like to be the first to extend you an invitation to join us on the forum.

The High Road was created by Oleg as a result of the closure of http://www.thefiringline.com/ at the first of the year. The Firing Line was widely regarded as the standard against which other forums should be judged, and it's closure would have left a gaping hole in the gun-owning Internet community. Fortunately Oleg was able to enlist some assistance and open The High Road, and a significant portion of The Firing Line's membership are able to continue to benefit from the high standards of behavior and information exchange that we enjoyed before.

Come and share/discuss your opinions with a group of equally articulate, like-minded folks who regard politeness and good manners to be a priority, rather than a burden. From what I've seen on your site, I believe you would enjoy the quality of the conversation we have at The High Road, and I think you have a lot to contribute as well.

I hope to see you there!

Respectfully,

Colin Fisher, known at The High Road as Hand_Rifle_Guy.

I hope he takes me up on it. He's got a great site, and displays a lot of open-minded, respectable viewpoints. He would be an asset to our community.

He seems to be a very knowledgable and sensible shooter. I'm sure we would all welcome his experience and opinions but he has his own website. I don't get the idea that he's much into the tactical or military side of shooting as much as hunting and our forum is certainly a bit heavy on the tactical/military aspects as was TheFiringLine.

I would certainly encourage everyone on this forum to take a gander over at his website, read up on his opinions on many topics and retain that information. Like I said, lots of very 'sensible' advice.
