I've sometimes doubled-up shooting fifties, but the last few times I've used just plain muffs, and not had too much of a problem. I'm sure someone will come along to say that it causes damage anyway, blah blah, but it didn't hurt, and wasn't (unusually) unpleasant, although I probably will continue to use both in the future.
